Thought I better introduce myself since I have a few pictures floating around. Trying to learn the photo maze. We farm in Iowa and finish Holstein bottle calves. My husband has an off the farm job so I do 2xs a day feeding chores and when he gets home he gets the heavy work. We have been raising Holsteins for about 10 years now. Of course just started out as a hobby. :) I have been following cattle forums for about a year now and have learned a lot. Thought it was time I quite being so shy.
Thank you all for sharing your advice and time.

Happy to make your acquaintance. You won't find any milk cow experience at my outfit. But I am willing to learn from you.

Wow, is there a good market for that.

Curios how many you raise, & what size?

I know several outfits looking for 3-400 weights if you can put together a semi load

I was just lookin' at your photos in the gallery.... from the size of your steers, it looks like you are quite successful at raising Holstein babies up to something bigger.

Welcome :cboy:

Welcome! :D I've got a good friend doing something similar to you in Colorado developing dairy heifers. She says it's great money, and she and her husband are set-up well to do it.

Thanks to all for the greetings. :D We have been finishing Holstein bottle calves for about 10 years now. Last year we had at one time 170 head of various sizes. Currently we have around 120. We do direct market (sides, quarters and beef bundles through the farm) and sale through the sale barn. I dont have to explain what has happened to that market. So we're hanging tough, but I love it and the life. RMUG I'll get back to your question in a day or two, so please check back. Thanks for the compliments, we do try hard to produce quality steers.

Dairy Steers only. Started out with Guernseys and Jerseys strictly direct marketing them. Started adding Holsteins, wow what a difference in the breeds. :) We are taking our last Guernsey to the sale barn this week. This year I'm downsizing a lot. I'm only taking Freisan Holsteins. They really finish nice and fast.
