I guess with nothing to compare to the weight would be hard to guess. I would have put him at 1470.

Aaron - if you ever get down to Montana look me and we'll make a road trip and see some hereford cattle. You wouldn't be going to the Calgary Bull Sale would you. I am.

Being that everyone is showing off their new additions. Here is one I'm kinda proud of. Home raised and will go out with the purebreds. I have babied him a little this winter, he gets a little oats and good hay all by himself. I like to halter break my herd bulls. I also took a weight on him when this picture was taken Dec. 18th - can you guess?

Bought one new bull this week for the purebred cows all the way down in Nebraska. Sucks you have to go to Nebraska to bring home some decent Canadian bloodlines.

Looks like a nice bull.

Aaron, just to be clear, I wasn't critizing the bull or doubting its weight.. It is more of a bit of bemusement I have mith myself and my total inability to estimate cattle weights.

Darn pictures can be deceiving. The bull by the board fence doesn't look the same as the one tied to the trailer.
Since Aarons bull weigh 1740 yours must weigh 2200 pounds.

IL Rancher...how dare you! Just kidding. I knew what you meant. I knew he had to be around the 1600 lb. area, Dad figured around the 1350 lb., phone call to the previous owners settled that dispute. Weight was taken about 3 weeks ago.

Two things I should mention: (1) I took the picture of the broad side of the bull at a higher level than him. He is actually taller than you think. I am 6 foot nothing and my chin would probably rest perfectly on his back. (2) The bulls sold carried no fat whatsoever. Everything you see is muscle. This guy walks like a cat and doesn't jiggle with every step he takes....me on the other hand.... :p

Hereford76 send me a pm with your contact info. My plan is to take a trip out to the Dakotas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana in a couple of years, so I might as well start building a list of people to drop in and visit with.

So is hereford 76 just going to keep us in suspense or is he going to tell us the weight of his bull.

Sorry - been busy outside and trying to get some advertising laid out for the Montana Hereford Assoc. If you get the Montana stockgrowers spring magazine check out the MHA breeder map - I made it. Or check out our web map I designed for our MHA website (move your cursor over the spots on the map and all the contact info for every paid member of the MHA pops up. http://www.montanahereford.org/mha_breeder_map.htm

The bull weighed 1815 the day the broad side picture was taken.

Its the same bull. the picture of him tied to the trailer was taken right under a light and it does make him look a lot lighter in color. I took the butt shot while I had him at the winter fair in Lewistown.
