Ranchers.net

I was visitin' with a friend this evening and he mentioned something that I'd thought of earlier in the day, while out ridin' and checkin' on these new yearlin's that just come in. So I wrote this up this evening. Still a rough draft, but I thot' I'd put it out here for comments and critisizim.

Please do me a favor and read it out loud. Cowboy poetry is meant to be heard out loud and not just read silently. Thats how it's supposed to work and it usually flows better. Thanks.

Green and White

Springtime on the high plains
can put you on the fight
but there’s somethin’ about the colors
of vivid green and white

April grass has started
the sun shines warm and bright
then a blizzard passes thru
and along comes the green and white

The wind screams like an eagle
and your innards get plumb tight
but now we’ve got some moisture
cuz' of all that green and white

Calves born during snow storms
can make the weaning average light
but without moisture there's no grass
so I appreciate this green and white

When the winds finally do subside
the sun chases away the night
there’s lots of work to be done
because of that green and white

There’s bound to be fences down
wire that needs stretched tight
I slop thru’ mud and muck
while gazing at green and white

As the sun melts the snowfall
the breeze still packs a bite
horseback I survey natures palette
her artwork of green and white

:)
