I have made these with ground pork and ground beef. The ground pork
might be a bit better because of the texture, but if you have ground beef on hand, it is great, too. I hope you enjoy!!

1 lb. ground pork (or beef)
3 Tbs. bread crumbs
2 Tbs. finely chopped onion
1/4 t. cayenne pepper (I didn't have any)
1 Tbs. brown sugar

1 tsp. olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper.
Mix the ground meat, breadcrumbs, onion, cayenne, sugar and 1/3
cup Pineaple-Papaya sauce until ingredients are evenly combined.
Shape into 4 1" thick patties. Brush the burgers with olive oil, then
season with salt and pepper. Grill over medium heat, turning once,
about 6 min. per side. Base with some of the Pineapple-Papaya sauce and grill for 2 min. more. To serve place burgers on rolls and spoon on Pineapple-Papaya sauce. Top with lettuce, tomato, thinly sliced pineapple and onion slices to your taste.

Pineapple-Papaya sauce
4 Tbs. crushed pineapple, well drained
3 Tbs. papaya, finely diced
2/3 c. basic BBQ sauce
1 Tbs. soy sauce
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Cook and stir over moderate
heat until sauce boils, reduce heat and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

Wow, as I typed this, I realized I didn't cook the sauce at all.
Just added it to the burgers. Still really, really good.

I had not ever used ground pork before except for sausage. This year a fella from Iowa who fattens pigs for a living brought us all kinds of pork products. Among the various stuff were barbequed pork burgers and after they are grilled they are delicious.

Your recipe sounds much better with the pork and if I find some ground pork I'm gonna have to try it.
