I am always full of storys most about my family and my life funny I have spent most of my life in it and around the family.
When my daughters oldest grandson was staying with us and was in the second grade he had an assignement to write the President a letter.
He sit down and printed the letter in the scrawly print he did at this time. Remember he was in the second grade. I did not ask to read the letter. He came to me with the letter addressed in his scrawly print and asked me for a dollar. I told him we had stamps. He said I know that but if I do not put a dollar in then he will not read it. Out of the mouth of babes.

That boy is wiser than his years. I think he has a basic grasp of politics in this country.

Yes he is grown now graduated high school joined the service and went to Iraq to serve this happened four months after he graduated. He will be home this month. Has been there a year . Has plans to start his college. I suspect he will be in Afhanganistan before the first of the year, more troops are needed and they do not have them will send the ones that are already in.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family...and of course, with his grandmother.

I was talking to a young man a church this morning... he did his first hitch as infantry and is now awaiting for approval to re-enlist.. part of the wait is he wants to change mos's,.. and while he is overly qualified, the paperwork is not completely approved,

seems there is a backlog on re-enlistments.. so he is home on terminal leave...

I was a little stunned...

I guess the question is,,... if the Army is so desperate and short handed, why backlogs, delays, and reduced signing bonuses?

The military never has been known for simplification of or lack of paperwork...
I have a buddy that was an aide to a General stationed in Germany...He never did have to go to Nam because everytime his orders came thru sending him the General would get them rescinded- saying "he had never found anyone so good with paperwork- and wasn't about to go thru training another one"..

That only created more paperwork since they had to start over in filling that position. I wouldn't call that being a soldier...maybe a secretary....we called them "Remington's Raiders" since they were so good with those old Remington typewriters... glad he never showed up in Nam....nobody missed him.
