Newt takes a spanking.....

A week after labeling Supreme Court Justice nominee Sonia Sotomayor as racist, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has retreated from that comment.

In an e-mail to supporters, the Washington Bureau Chief for Cox Radio News, Gingrich says his stinging rebuke of President Barack Obama's pick was flawed.

"My initial reaction was strong and direct - perhaps too strong and too direct. The sentiment struck me as racist and I said so. Since then, some who want to have an open and honest consideration of Judge Sotomayor's fitness to serve on the nation's highest court have been critical of my word choice.

Whoops!!!

My opinions are my own and have nothing to do with anything Newt says or does.

You will also notice that I have offered no comments on any of the discussions of Sonia.

What's the big deal? He says his initial reaction was "flawed".

Have you never looked back in retrospect and taken another look at a situation? Didn't think so..........................

You're a Liberal........

Liberals make their minds up and continue to be stupid even when someone shows them their faults................

Why don't you be more specific and tell us when , where, how and what Sotomayor said she was "Flawed"?

Let's compare their retractions side by side.

Good idea. I'd like to see a comparison as well. And I also want to see where I dropped the square too.

Looks like Obama went fishing- and Newt, Rush, and crew immediately bit on the bait...
Now maybe The Newt is realizing that sometime this year- the Bush/McCain/Kennedy "amnesty" bill is going to rearise- that will put 20 million illegal aliens on fast track for citizenship- and probably mean 20 million more Democrat voters if the Repub party stays true to its present course...

By appointing a summa cum laude graduate from Princeton who has more experience on the bench than any Supreme Court nominee in 70 years and then having conservatives spew bile all over her for one sentence she said in Berkeley 8 years ago, all he has to do is stand by and watch as the few Latino Republicans left get disgusted and leave the party. It is not clear whether Rahm Emanuel or David Axelrod was the driving force here, but from a professional point of view, Karl Rove is no doubt impressed with how clever these guys are.

I happen to think that his original comment was correct.

How "clever" these guys are? A conservative hires somebody based on race and they're racist, a liberal does the same and they're clever. How does that work?

Show me where she apologized.....obama and his spokesmen have said her words were taken out of context BUT where has she said anything?

Hail ......
she forced a Washington law firm to apologize for what she considered discriminatory questions that a partner asked about her Puerto Rican heritage during a recruiting dinner.

Sotomayor declined and filed a discrimination complaint with Yale, putting the firm, then known as Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge, at risk of being banned from recruiting at Yale.

The incident sparked a campus controversy in which minority and women's groups backed Sotomayor. A student-faculty tribunal investigated and found the questions violated the university's rules against discrimination. It rejected the firm's first letter of apology as too weak before accepting its second letter.

That's the double standard liberals ignore.

OT, you forget Newt unseated a House Democrat leadership that had been in power for over 40 years by using a platform of Conservative principles. That's all the Republican party has to do...stand on traditional, conservative principles. Following the advise of your opposition is plain stupid...McCain and the Republican leadership that support him are what these "pundits" say the Republicans need to become....

True but that was 15 years ago- and since then a whole new generation of educated, much more tolerant voters have come to be- along with a large influx of nonwhite immigrants --while more of the old racists and homophobes- scientific naysayers- and "return of dixie" folks have been dying off...

Also the last 8 years (6 of which Repubs controlled both Congress and the White House) didn't show much for "fiscal conservaty" or economics being a highlight of the Republican Party- with them totally forgetting about the "no nationbuilding" policy of true conservatives- and building the biggest bureaucracy and debt since FDR- a stagnated workers earnings economy- and leading up to the Bush Bust and the countries greatest economic times since Herbert Hoover...

Newt will have a tough row to hoe if he can get people to forget the Bush years that fast...

All I can think of are the Obama supporters off of the street who were told McCain's positions were Obama's and how those people supported the issues on tape. Then when they were given Obama's real stance and told it was McCain's, they were critical of Obama's proposals.

These people had no clue what the issues really were. These people elected Obama. You are calling them "educated?" All of America saw it on prime time televsion OT.
