Someone essplain this one to me:

Hank Williams Jr. who has sung the theme to Monday Night Football for over 20 years makes a non-obscene statement of "his" political beliefs on a show away from the NFL, and is banned instantly from Monday Night Football and the NFL can't distance themselves far enough.

I understand a company firing a spokesperson for being controversial.

However, how many super bowl half times (The most sought after moments of the NFL's season and absolutely the most planned) have had serious controversy with either obscene nudity, gestures and language while it is expected that the majority of America's youth are watching?

The NFL purposely picked 3 artists known for their controversy and obscenity and placed them main stage at the pinnacle of the year.

rapper M.I.A. -- M.I.A. flipped her middle finger at the camera, forcing NBC to issue an apology.

"The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show," NBC said in a statement. "Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers."

However, the NFL issued a statement saying M.I.A. had not rehearsed flipping the bird, so they had no knowledge of what she was going to do. "The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans,"

M.I.A.'s middle finger may currently be the most-discussed digit in America, dominating the post-Super Bowl chatter and earning swift rebukes from NBC and the NFL. But for those who've covered her career from the beginning, well, let's just say this is basically par for the course.

That support and her overtly political lyrics led to her being denied a travel visa by the U.S. government and earned her a spot on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's risk list in 2006. So, really, a middle finger is no big thing.

in general the halftime isn't worth watching...

normally I would say they would be better off running commercials.. ,.. but there must have been alot of unsold ad time as there were a bunch of GE commercials ,.. which were about as nauseating as the halftime crap..
