"NIMBYS" Push For XL KEYSTONE Approval

Saying it has the power of the American people on its side, proponents of the long-embattled Keystone XL Pipeline planned to deliver more than a half-million comments to the U.S. State Department urging President Obama to approve the pipeline.

"The needlessly long review of the Keystone XL pipeline continues to deprive thousands of Americans of good-paying jobs and the nation of a vital piece of energy infrastructure," said Cindy Schild, the American Petroleum Institute's downstream operations senior manager for refining and oil sands, said Thursday morning in her opening statements at a Washington, D.C., news conference.

"At year six, and counting, of the administration's review, support among policymakers and the public continues to grow," Schild said. "To make sure the president hears the American people, we will deliver more than 500,000 comments to the State Department urging the president to approve the pipeline."

The proposed $5.4-billion project, which would transport crude oil from Canada to Texas, has been mired in political controversy and administrative plodding, with environmentalists claiming climate change doom and project proponents declaring it an economic and national security boon.

Obama recently told U.S. governors he expects to decide whether to sign off on TransCanada Corp.'s Keystone XL proposal within the next few months.

and a side benefit would be more crude on the world market earning Canada and the US revenue and jobs..

at this point.. it shows how badly Obama has screwed our nation and ignored a valuable friend

and while we hold up drilling here,.. we export money to countries that hate US and our values..

Obama is a complete idiot.. what more can be said..

I wouldn't recommend sitting here holding my breath for him to sign it..

As one who isn't going to directly benefit, or be overly 'afflicted by' that pipeline, though it is planned to go within a few miles of our land, I see the benefits as far outweighing the problems all such large projects can have on people.

Too many of those who decry the project as 'ruining the land' have already pretty well trashed their own corner of the world, base on occasional drives through areas they mentioned in testimony against the project.

The additional oil, wherever it may go, adds to 'new', 'local' supplies of oil as contrasted with that in lands of people who hate us. Canada is one of our best neighbors and trade partners, so buying from them makes sense, AND some of that North Dakota oil is promised space on the pipeline.

Moving oil via a modern, state of the art pipeline makes far more sense than hauling on railroads, the best of which are NOT state of the art where they travel through SD!!!!

In SD, farmers and ranchers bear a disproportionate tax burden. Keystone will be a new taxpayer at the county level, with some of our heaviest tax burdens being pretty heavy, I appreciate the help!

It is hard to comprehend the comments on facebook against the XL pipeline. There are plenty of comments showing support with most of the nay-sayers believing the oil won't benefit the USA as it will go to China. Lots of conversation there and extremely difficult to change the negative mindset. Perception is reality with those people. Sad.

it may .. but as it passes through it will be refined and processed.. which creates jobs..

Seeing as it is marketed on a world exchange, how do they know it won't go to a country like Ukraine?

Produce as much as you can, lower the price and help out your domestic consumers, and foreign consumers, all the while lowering the returns of "upstarts" like Russia?

In the future, will Israel be able to help the European market, with the supply of NG?

sure would hate to piss off future suppliers by having the wrong types in power. Would hate to have those in power believe that "those dirty Jews" control everything, when in the future, they will need to purchase NG from those same people to survive. But that's big picture...

"economic sanctions"????

there are more than a few ways to implement economic sanctions.
