Today I made a big circle, but still not sure if I got anything done.

Anyone know what the mossy stuff is called. It smells like juniper, but grows low on the ground.

Not hard to see why they call it snake creek.

Old prairie dog town that we are trying to get rid of.

ranch1010.jpg

Yep, the environmentalist are right. Prairie dogs don't damage the forage.
Looking the other way from the spot the last photo was taken.

Sage is getting near full bloom. Mmmm. Smells good!

This is an interesting spot. Can't decide if this is natures table, or some kind of a compass. :)

Sparrow holes.

Wonder what taxes are on this spot. At least it is wet.

Clump of cactus.

Could it be creeping juniper, Tap?

Good pix. Good country. :)

Maybe we are kind of backwards in this part of the world, but we do have some nice country to live in.

Heck Jassy, wasn't nothin'. :) I hate to waste time, as we usually have so many things going on at once, but I bought a pocket sized camera in January (like Soapweed mentioned), and it is almost too handy to take along. I always wondered what kind of hobby I might take up someday, and sorting through all my photos will probably be it.

I have been waiting for some more good ones from you too.

Just a thought Tap, does that juniper-like stuff have small berries on it? You may have to turn the branches over to see them underneath. If there's berries, and they're kinda pale, it's the same stuff that seems to flourish in sand here. It's called creeping cedar. Not sure if that's the proper name, just what we've always called it. The mule deer go after them berries somethin' fierce come fall. It's tough stuff to get rid of too. Like most conifers, it seems to really like the open sandy places with a low pH.

Great pics by the way.

Thanks Pure Country. And yes, I think that stuff does get a berry on it. They are greyish colored if I remember correctly. So I think you and JB are on to something with your ideas. It is probably one or the other. It is really sandy in that area.

Yes, this can be sort of a backwards country, but we wouldn't want it any other way. We are not populated by the Californians YET here. Not to the extent of our neighboring state to the west anyway.

I'm sure that's the same stuff that grows down in The Great Sandhills where we hunt muledeer. Looks like that dogtown needs some of us down there with our .222's and .243's-that's fun stuff.

Neat pictures Tap. Like the rock shaped like a table.

Glad it's not in my pasture. When the guys that help me gather cattle would find it, a card game would break out and we'd never get anything done.

You sure got pretty country up there! You're getting to be be an excellent photographer. Keep em' coming.

Nice pictures, Tap. The camera clicking deal is kind of addicting, isn't it? I carry my camera in my front shirt pocket, like a pack of cigarettes. Every time I would reach for the pack if I was a smoker, I just click another picture instead. It is cheaper and just as satisfying. :)

It seems like it would be hard grass country? The year our cow calf pairs were on hard grass they were the heaviest set of calves we've weened.

Come on up, and we will have a ranchers.net cardgame on the "table". We do usually brand in that pasture, so that might be an idea.

Yes Soapweed, I would rather have an addiction to photography than many other vices. Never did like cigarette smoke. :?

CattleArmy, this is hard grass country, but we do have some warm season grasses too. Bluestems mostly.

The plant looks like creeping Juniper, which has blue grey berries and grows in prostrate, spreading clumps.
