No earmarks?

Texan

How many earmarks are slipped through just like this?

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/02/is-the-futuregen-clean-coal-project-back-in-the-stimulus-bill.php

This is a pet project that Obama has been wanting for a long time. Who wants to bet that it won't be funded now? Will all of us pay for it in the name of "stimulus?"

What about the salt marsh mouse? No doubt an important little critter in Nancy's district, but...isn't this an earmark?

Lawmakers and administration officials divulged Wednesday that the $789 billion economic stimulus bill being finalized behind closed doors in Congress includes $30 million for wetlands restoration that the Obama administration intends to spend in the San Francisco Bay Area to protect, among other things, the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse.

How can any Democrat say with a straight face that there are no earmarks or pork in this bill? They lying has gotten so excessive that they don't even know when they're lying anymore.

Here's a little quiz for you liberals. Who made the following statements?

And, listen, I know that there are a lot of folks out there who’ve been saying, “Oh, this is pork, and this is money that’s going to be wasted,” and et cetera, et cetera. Understand, this bill does not have a single earmark in it, which is unprecedented for a bill of this size, does not have a single earmark in it.

But what I — what I’ve been concerned about is some of the language that’s been used suggesting that this is full of pork and this is wasteful government spending, so on and so forth. …

But when they start characterizing this as pork without acknowledging that there are no earmarks in this package — something, again, that was pretty rare over the last eight years — then you get a feeling that maybe we’re playing politics instead of actually trying to solve problems for the American people.

I'll even give you a few hints:

Both of these statements were made this week and both of them were made on the same day and both of them were made by the same person.

Whoever said that is a bold-faced liar who doesn't mind being a bold-faced liar - and an elitist who has such a low regard for the US public that he/she thinks they will believe it. In short, somebody who needs booted out of office yesterday.

Harry Reid’s stimulating rail to Vegas
By Michelle Malkin • February 12, 2009 09:36 AM

President Obama lambasted businesses that use taxpayer money to visit Las Vegas.

It’s okay, however, to use porkulus money to build pie-in-the-sky rail lines from Los Angeles to Vegas for Harry Reid’s benefit.

A Hill staffer points out this morning that Reid and Obama are pushing for an $8 billion earmark in the conference report (shhh! there are no earmarks, remember?) to “construct high-speed rail lines, quadrupling the amount in the bill that passed the Senate on Tuesday. Reid’s office issued a statement noting that a proposed Los Angeles-to-Las Vegas rail might get a big chunk of the money.”

The Hill staffer notes that Reid earmarked $45 million last year for the public magnetic levitation train project — which is in competition with a completely privately funded rail project being built along a similar route.

No wonder they won’t let us see the bill before they rush to cram it down our throats.

Here's a nice trip down memory lane for you Obamaniacs - you'll love this headline. From WAY back in January:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Members of Congress won't be allowed to slip earmarks into the economic recovery package Congress will soon take up, President-elect Barack Obama said Tuesday.

President-elect Barack Obama says details of the stimulus package will be posted online.
"We are going to ban all earmarks, the process by which individual members insert pet projects without review," Obama told reporters after a meeting with his economic advisers.

How could anyone say this with a straight face?

From what I heard this morning, no one (the opposition) has actually been able to read or see the final Bill, and now they're supposed to vote on it?

What happened to Zer0's rule that was to give the public a minimum of 5 days to read a Bill before he signs it..............

This whole deal is preposterous, to say the least.

What has happened to all the "Transparency" he promised?

It's gonna be a long four years.....................

Yeah, but it's gonna be a lotta fun here in Political Bull. Well, maybe not so much fun for the liberals.

Obama said that getting a handle on the country's skyrocketing budget deficit must begin with the economic stimulus plan, and that the plan must include changes in the way Congress does business.

how is spending another trillion " getting a handle on the country's skyrocketing budget deficit " ?????

How can any one still defend the antics of the liberals on this Bill?

oops they don't..
Rasmussen: Stimulus bill support drops to 37%

closed doors.. stuffed full of pork... earmarks,.. and the partisan nature Obama has taken... ?

I am not sure of this, the Liberals seem to be fading away a little. They do not like it when tough questions are asked or they are put on the spot to defend something that obviously can not be defended. It may turn into a Ghost town in here.

It can't be defended. I give them credit for realizing this - but I don't understand why they quietly let it happen.

Doesn't Kola's tag say something about "Sinning by silence"?

Let's see nobody has called him to the carpet on it. Surely there are some Republican members with some backbone. Or wait could those earmarks be theirs too? I know I know Obama said there wouldn't be any earmarks. Kinda reminds me of when the elder Bush said no new taxes. It got him in trouble, this could possibly do the same for Obama and those associated with those earmarks.

If Republicans put in earmarks then Obama should not sign it either! The Buck stops at his desk! Obama should say hey look at all this pork, he should name the Republicans and Democrats that put it in and refuse to sign the bill!

Point you are missing is Obama wants these things, he is a socialist and he is getting everything he wants all in one swipe of the pen!

You'll never get rid of earmarks or pork in bills until the President has a line item veto...And as I remember it- when we had one- Republicans were upset because Clinton used it to cut out some of their pork- and they took it to court and got it ruled Unconstitutional...

So now we have what we have....

That is irrelevant, Obama should refuse to sign it, just because he does not have a line item veto does not mean he has to sign it. All he has to do is refuse to sign it and then go on TV and tell the people who, what and why.

Sick of this well Republican did this or Democrat did this or this is ok because they did it! Right it Right and wrong is wrong!

Forget the Past Oldtimer :!: :!: :!:

OBAMA said no pork those were his words NO PORK . He repeated these words even after he knew what was in the bill. He campaigned on change, again his word CHANGE but what changed? . WHY are you oh so willing to give him a pass when NOTHING HAS CHANGED and he lied about there not being pork in the Bill he said would not have PORK in it?
