No More 'Taps' in New York State

Of all the military bugle calls, none is so easily recognized or more apt to render emotion than Taps.

There is something singularly beautiful and appropriate in the music of this wonderful call. Its strains are melancholy, yet full of rest and peace. Its echoes linger in the heart long after its tones have ceased to vibrate in the air.

No More 'Taps' in New York State

Week of September 10, 2012

Stars and Stripes reports that because of budget cuts, New York State as of Oct. 1 will no longer hire musicians to play "Taps" on trumpets or bugles at the more than 300 military funerals per month staffed by New York's Military Forces Honor Guard units. Federal funding pays for a three-member funeral detail to attend military funerals: two active-duty National Guard troops and a bugler. The funding cuts only apply to the bugler.

Just another way liberals show "respect" for those who served...

It shouldn't even come up, I'd like to know who thought this up.

et, the piped-in version is what mourners will hear at virtually all New York military funerals beginning Oct. 1, due to a 25 percent reduction in federal funding for the state's Military Forces Honor Guard.

A 25 percent cut in the $3.3 million in federal funding for New York’s Military Forces Honor Guard in fiscal year 2013 led to a 29 percent reduction in the program that funds Honor Guard units, said Eric Durr, a spokesman for the New York National Guard.

part of the 'rational' for the cut is the lack of Buglers

with thousands of kids, not getting any sort of music program.. many could be taught one song...

and the $50 honorarium would help those kids out a bit..

same with seniors..

maybe if we called it a music welfare program liberals would fund it?

I doubt any one will take credit fro the cuts... and no one seems to be offering a solution...

If we have enough money to send the prez to fly over NY for a photo op we dang sure better have enough money to fund playing of the Tap for our military.
