no secret ballot

Presidential Candidate Barack Obama sent a letter to Beef Northwest Feeders in Oregon, asking them to recognize the June 13 card check election and negotiate with the United Farm Workers Union.

According to the Agribusiness Freedom Foundation, in a card check election "union organizers can approach an employee at work, at his home or elsewhere and pressure him into signing a card in front of them - no privacy and no secret ballot. The union is not required to have the employer's participation nor even alert the employer to their activities or pressure."

The AFF says in most states workers have the right to a secret ballot in deciding whether or not to join a union, and that national card check legislation is a priority for Obama and his party. The AFF reports that Beef Northwest Feeders will abide by the wishes of its employees in a truly neutral election monitored by a qualified third party.

In his letter, Obama states "I am committed to the ability of our nation's agricultural workers to organize."

Boy I bet the agribusiness conglomerates like that stance. But of course since Palin's huband is a member of a union, hey there may be more hope for the working man than I previously thought.

Labor Unions and Communism go together like Corn Flakes and Milk.

Google those words together and see what comes up.

I wonder if I googled corporate fascism what I would come up with. Does this mean you don't care for Palin? I am sure she supports her husband after all they have 5 children.

No, I am undecided as to who will win. I still think the debates along with the one who can win over the apathetic non-voter and Independents will win. Also from now until Nov. 20 ? is forever.

Well if you believe Steve Dittmer and his one man Agribusiness Freedom Foundation- which is totally a Packer/Big Corporate Whore- promotes foreign beef over US product- and won't even list where his Packer Lobbyist funding comes from- I can't help you.....

Just go to the Bull Sessions and search Dittmer you can find 100's of segments tied to him- most of which are opposed by anyone except those that want to see the end of small and family ranching and promote the vertical integration of the industry and Corporate farming/ranching.... :(

I'm no fan of unions, but the Democrat party might be in trouble with them this time around. The Dems have always been in bed with big labor, but I think they're going to lose a lot of the union vote this year. And they'll lose it in places that really matter, like Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.

When the average rural union guy sees that there's a chance to have a real, working, common man-union guy close to the VP, and once they look at her - hunts, fishes, life NRA member, etc. - and then they look at a big city Chicago liberal like Obama...

My experience having belonged to unions is either you're Union or you're not. I haven't seen much disloyalty with respect to locations, etc. There are a lot of close knit union members some of them hunt and fish and others stay home and watch football. But when it comes down to negotiations they usually band together. JMHO

How many of these agriculture workers are illegal aliens and will they want to be part of a union?

True. But who running for office besides the 3rd party candidates wants to confront illegal immigrants-they all want their votes to get elected instead of upholding our current laws.

I was a Teamster for 30 years, and what you say about negotiations and/or strikes is true. But when it came to voting, most of the guys I knew went with their conscience and weren't swayed by pressure to vote the way the union wanted. In my experience, it was the union bosses that were in bed with the Democrats and not so much the rank and file.

Lou Dobbs and 50+ Independent journalists are In D.C this week- slamming the administration- the candidates- and the Congressmen about their failure to obey the laws on the books and do anything to close the border to stop the illegal immigrants, the increased influx of drugs, and any terrorist that wants to walk/drive across- packing any WMD they can fit in a semi....

Well thats what they're calling themselves- and Dobbs just said he can't vote for either Obama or McCain because of their border/immigration/sovereignty policies...

He made an interesting point- after it being one of the key issues a year ago-- during the past 8 days of political conventions- nobody spoke a breath about the borders, the fence, national sovereignty, immigrants, amnesty, border security, etc-- since both know that their policy goes against the majority of the country...
One pundit commented that both parties are the same pigs- just different colored lipstick

The reality is that either Obama or McCain will be the next President...not voting is stupid. That said, only about have of eligible voters vote...meaning ALL of our elected officials are elected with a minority of votes...could that be the problem with our government?
