Congressman: No golf trips for Obama until White House tours resume :D

Posted on March 6, 2013

Republican Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert introduced an amendment to the Continuing Resolution that would not provide the White House with any taxpayer funds to transport President Barack Obama to and from any golf course until they resume White House public tours.

In a House floor speech, Gohmert said he filed the amendment with the House Rules Committee.

“None of the funds made available by a division of this act may be used to transport the president to or from a golf course until public tours of the White House resume,” the amendment reads.

FH-- I hope you are aware that just because one Congressman introduces an amendment does not make it law... It still must go thru all the hoops and loops of being passed by the House- the Senate- and signed into law by the President...

You are aware of that- aren't you :???:

Oldtimer what do you think it is going to look like on Obama's behalf if he doesn't sign it into law just so he can save the funding for his golf trips when he continuely tells people THEY HAVE TO TIGHTEN THEIR BELTS especially when he is telling the public they can't tour the White House due to lack of funds? If the guy had any guts he would include no funds for seperate planes for the first family EVER due to the massive debt this President has put on the tax payers he is now locking out of the White House THE US CITIZENS HOUSE.

I was interested if ot agreed that obama shouldn't be paid for his excursions till the tours resumed.

And since kola was all worried about government waste I am sure she will be all for stopping his golf trips at gov expense.

Just a reminder spring break for the obama girls....donations anyone

Actually I don't agree...When you take that position its in some ways worse than being in prison... I'm sure all those Presidents for the last century wish they could do without all the security, and aides, and communication equipment they have to have with them at all times- but they do... And you can't sit in an office or the WH all day long-- or you'd lose total contact with the people like GHW Bush did when he went out on a big publicized shopping excursion-- and didn't know what the electronic price scanners were in the store he was visiting...

As far as the golf--everyone, no matter who it is should have a hobby- and golf as well as a hobby is a form of exercise... And golf is considered the Presidential sport- 15 of the last 18 Presidents have been golfers... While everyone knows how much golf Ike played (Ike had a green built on the WH lawn)-- Woodrow Wilson was even more avid player and I saw a show on him on tv that said prior to his stroke- he played a round of golf every day...

From history- it appears sometimes that more diplomacy- or more working out of a legislative compromise has occurred on the golf course than anywhere else... And one thing this country definitely needs is more compromise and working out deals....

Nope- in fact LBJ was a terrible golfer- but took anyone he was trying to wheel and deal into going along with his legislation golfing... One program on the Presidents suggests the Civil Rights Bill's support was finalized by LBJ on a golf course...

Just like in this part of Montana- many ranchers say that more cattle change hands in a bar- than in a stockyards- as the majority of cattle here are contracted and the only meeting place for the rancher and buyer (everyone) in the small towns is the bar...

it has been a well know fact that Obama seldom golfs with anyone but those who are in his circle.. and would have little chance to hear others differing views.

Undeterred by complaints from the White House press corps about a lack of access, President Obama spent Presidents Day playing his third straight day of golf to wrap up a secluded guys weekend at an exclusive golf course in Florida.

The presidents long weekend trip to the Floridian Yacht and Golf Club in Palm City, Fla., where he golfed with Tiger Woods and a tight-knit group of friends at the golf course and residential compound, demonstrated a new willingness to ignore criticism about his private recreational choices in his second and final term.

Barack Obama's private golf club

Lyndon Johnson, a lousy golfer but a first-class legislator, secured Senate votes for the historic 1964 Civil Rights Act while on the links.

But Obama is more hermetic about a sport that has supplanted basketball as his weekend passion — and he’s been loath to mix business with pleasure.

Friends and associates say the president sees his five-hour outings as a chance to blow off steam, improve on a score that averages in the mid- to upper-90s and, above all, escape the scrutiny of his day job.

“To a certain extent, his insularity as a president, relying on a relatively small circle of advisers, is reflected in the small group of guys he plays golf with,” said veteran New York Times reporter Don Van Natta, Jr.,

An analysis of 64 of the 71 rounds Obama has played since taking office shows that his golf circle has actually gotten much tighter over the past 2 1/2 years, narrowing from a group of about two dozen pals, administration officials and Cabinet members to a dozen or so trusted partners.

On most weekends this spring, Obama had the same three golf buddies

That foursome — with an occasional cameo by a Cabinet official or U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk — plays at a pair of D.C.-area military courses — Andrews Air Force Base and Fort Belvoir — weather and schedule permitting. On vacations to Hawaii or Martha’s Vineyard, the president usually plays with friends from school or pals from Chicago.

From history- it appears sometimes that more diplomacy- or more working out of a legislative compromise has occurred on the golf course than anywhere else... And one thing this country definitely needs is more compromise and working out deals....

as usual the Obama you describe is nothing like the real Obama
a person that cares nothing of compromise,.. on or off the course..
