Kristi Noem raises $1.1 million, twice as much as Sandlin
South Dakota State Rep. Kristi Noem, the Republican candidate for the state's single congressional district, raised twice as much money this quarter as the congresswoman she hopes to unseat -- 1.1 million dollars.
Dubbed "the next Sarah Palin," Noem hopes to knock out Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, a popular conservative Democrat in a right-leaning state. It's the most serious challenge to Herseth Sandlin since she was first elected in 2004. As the Post wrote in 2004:
But 2010 is a different time, and Herseth Sandlin, 39, faces her most serious threat yet. Noem, 38, is authentic, tall and lean, soft-spoken but tough, an unabashed conservative who rarely strays off script. She's a made-for-Fox News star in her own right.
Whereas Herseth Sandlin grew up on a farm, Noem runs a ranch. She rides horses, herds cattle, hunts elk (with a bow), shoots prairie dogs (with a rifle) and skins pheasants. With her husband, Bryon, she takes care of two teenage daughters, Kassidy and Kennedy, a son, Booker, and a rotating crew of nieces and nephews.
Noem now has $777,000 cash on hand, compared to Herseth Sandlin's $500,000. It's a bigger haul than any other House challenger this quarter. Senate challenger Sharron Angle, meanwhile, raised an amazing $14 million this quarter in her race against Harry Reid. And Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) took in $5.4 million in the past three months -- more than any Minnesota congressional candidate has raised in an entire election

If it's true: Twenty speeding tickets. Two warrents for arrest.... Failure to showup for court..... Do they not vet these people running for congress?? Makes me want to look long and hard at either one to vote for, if I were voting.

Kristi Noem, the Republican nominee challenging incumbent Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin for South Dakota's only House seat, is under fire after local news reporters unearthed her lengthy record of driving violations.
Noem, 38, is widely considered to be one of the GOP's strongest candidates this year. She was recently featured in a front page Washington Post profile of the South Dakota race and topped our list of the "Next Women to Watch" in the 2010 election cycle because of her experience as assistant majority leader in the South Dakota House of Representatives and her strong showing in polls that have her leading Herseth Sandlin.
According to local news reports, Noem's lifetime driving record includes 20 speeding tickets, three stop sign violations, two seat belt violations, and a citation for failing to carry her driver's license. She has also received six notices for failing to appear in court and two arrest warrants for failing to pay fines related to her tickets. She was stopped by police earlier this year for driving 94 mph.
Noem, a mother of three and a state legislator, told Keloland.com that she is not proud of her driving record and that she is trying to set a better example for young drivers. She also said she is up to date on all of her fines.
"I just feel disheartened we're spending time talking about my poor driving record when we could be talking about the economy and jobs," she said.
But Herseth Sandlin and her campaign aren't letting Noem off the hook easily.
Russ Levsen, a senior adviser to Herseth Sandlin, blasted Noem for her driving record and said it speaks to the kind of leader she will be. "Kristi Noem thinks the rules don't apply to her," Levsen told the Rapid City Journal. "She repeatedly breaks the law, fails to appear in court and has multiple warrants for her arrest issued. The last thing we need in Congress is a politician who ignores the court dates and racks up arrests warrants."

Apprently this woman broke the law all by herself.....no one made up the tickets and warrants just to ' smear' her.....
Ed....do you EVER read?
Really, Ed....with your record you should run you'd fit right in.
Works under several ID names, from what I heard already arisen from the dead and that would please the religous right voters...
hell man, you'd get elected in a snap....
A smear campaign is an intentional, premeditated effort to undermine an individual's or group's reputation, credibility, and character. "Mud slinging", like negative campaigning, most often targets government officials, politicians, political candidates, and other public figures. However, private persons or groups may also become targets of smear campaigns perpetrated in schools, companies, institutions, families, and other social groups.
Smear tactics differ from normal discourse or debate in that they do not bear upon the issues or arguments in question. A smear is a simple attempt to malign a group or an individual and to attempt to undermine their credibility.
Smears often consist of ad hominem attacks in the form of unverifiable rumors and are often distortions, half-truths, or even outright lies; smear campaigns are often propagated by gossip spreading. Even when the facts behind a smear are shown to lack proper foundation, the tactic is often effective because the target's reputation is tarnished before the truth is known.
Smears are also effective in diverting attention away from the matter in question and onto the individual or group. The target of the smear is typically forced to defend his reputation rather than focus on the previous issue.
Smear tactics are considered by many to be a low, disingenuous form of discourse; they are nevertheless very common.

About the defn of a smear?
I was just going to quote it and you wiped it off.....
This woman smeared herself.... all of her acts were intentional of her own making.
isn't that what the Tea Beggers want....people be resp. for thier own actions and decisons????
Well, then why try to make excuses for this woman then?
