I grew up as a Lutheran and part of the ELCA, as I look through their website and learn more about the ELCA, it's time to cut ties. Can somebody point me in the direction of something that is not Marxist?

Our little Lutheran Church made a choice to leave the liberal "social club" and join the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations several years ago and we've never regretted it.

Our local congregations tell the AFLC what we expect of them instead of the top to bottom relationship that ELCA has where it tells the local congregations what they have to do. ELCA also claims to own your local church building although they didn't spend a dime to build it. AFLC doesn't do that.

Check the AFLC website at http://www.aflc.org/ and you may find what you're looking for. I wish you well.

Since you've been Lutheran all your life you'll probably want to find another Lutheran Church to worship in. If you don't we would love to have you in the Catholic Church.

Ben find a church that has God and the Bible as their focus.
It is very hard BUT they are out there. Good luck and have fun trying out new churches.

I did a google on churches in Gorham, ME and there are quite a few.

LifeChurch is non denominational but their statement of faith is one that I believe in .... http://www.lifechurchmaine.org/about_us.html#StatementofFaith

I didn't realize there were different types of Lutheran churches however I guess I should have thought of that since there are different types of Baptist churches. My husband is Lutheran and I have a bro in law who is a Lutheran pastor but I believe all the Lutheran churches in my area are of the MO Synod affiliation. This area is mostly Catholic and Lutheran and the town has schools of both affiliations as well.

You do have a MO Synod Lutheran church in Gorham .... Redeemer Lutheran Church...........this is their mission statement and they have sermons to listen to as well http://www.forministry.com/USMELUCMSRRRRR/MissionStatement.dsp
and here is what the Mo Synod beliefs:

Maybe God wants you to step outside of the box. Pray about it, visit around and look for a Bible believing church that delves into the word and not just a "feel good" message.

I WOULD SUGGEST THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN SYNOD
A CONSERVATIVE LITURGICAL LUTHERAN SYNOD WITH
MANY CONGREGATIONS IN THE MIDWEST AND GREAT LAKES
AREA WITH A TOTAL OF 130 CONGREGATIONS AND ONLY 15,000 MEMBERS AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE NORWEGIAN OR
OR SCANDINAVIAN BACK GROUND TO JOIN
