Noromycin 300 vs. Tetradure 300?

I ordered a bottle of Tetradure from QC Supply, the pharmacist called me to tell me that they had a generic available (noromycin), has anyone seen a comparison to see if it's in fact just as good? It's about half the price and you don't need a prescription.

The antibiotic is the same I assume, the question is the suspension, that's what the big secret is with these drug companies. The reason I use the tetradure over LA-200 is because I can usually avoid a follow up dosage. hopefully this other stuff has the same residiual effect as long.

I just bought the medidart bow and arrow. Now I probably won't have another pinkeye case to try it out. I did have one about 2 weeks ago. Tall grass and brush was probably what caused it this time around. I didn't vaccinate this year. They get free choice mineral and I have one of those "Fly Killer Kovers" on the feeder.

I have been using the Noromycin, because it is cheaper than Biomycin. I can't really tell if there is much difference other than the price. Tetradure is pricey.

Both products are oxytetracyclines, so work great for Pink-eye treatment, footrots and pneumonia. They are just a LONG ACTING form of tetracyclines, so the antibiotic stays in the system and works longer on just 1 dose, rather than 2 or 3 doses of La-200.

Noromycin 300(sold over the counter-no prescription) is only 3cc/100# and lasts up to 5 days. Approx .12c/cc, so 500# calf would cost $1.80/treatment

Tetradur 300 (RX required) will last for 7-8 days in the system. approx 6.8CC/100#. Approx .27c/cc, so 500# calf would cost $9.18.

Both are very syringeable in warm weather, but for the gentlemen with the Crossbow, be sure to warm them up quite a bit in the fall or spring, or it won't go thru the dart on your crossbow.
Hope that helps.

I mentioned the Noromycin to my Vet, she hadn't heard of this alternative but recommended staying away from the generics.

I've used Tetradure a few times, worked well but leaves a rather large lump.

Thanks for the advice before using the bow, but the needle on that sucker is huge, I bought the SQ one in addition to the supplied IM one.

I made the mistake of grabbing an 18ga needle once when giving a syringe full of Tetradure to a cow, NOT FUN!

Actually, the noromycin is NOT a generic product. It is manufactured by Norbrook, Inc of Lenexa, KS The hold a NADA Number #141-143 Approved by FDA, Patent No. 6,110,905 and Patent no. 6,310,053
So rest assured, it is not a generic and has complete backing by the FDA.

Actually it's my fault, I told her it was genaric because that's what the pharmacist or salesmen at QC Supply left for a message on my answering machine. I ordered a bottle of tetradure online (with prescription from my vet) and they left a message that on page. xx of the catalog was a genaric drug that is cheaper and doesn't require a prescription.

Thats great, glad they are trying to save you money. The product does work well! Just a FYI, I did a cost comparison at our feedlot, as we were using the GENERIC product called Duramycin 200 or Terra-Vet 200(these are generics to the LA-200), but they only last 3 days per injection instead of the 5 days like Noromycin.
If you give 2 doses of Duramycin/Terra-vet 200(for a total of 5-6 days coverage) to a 550# calf, or ONE DOSE of Noromycin 300, for 5 days coverage, it only costs you approx .50c more per calf to use the Noromycin 300. Research shows it costs approx $3.00/head everytime you run an animal through the chute due to lost weight gain, injuries to feet, shoulders, etc. Hope this helps everyone.

Interesting how regional things go...I had never even heard of Noromycin until this post...Haven't seen it at the Vet or the Feed Store- and when I looked in Western Ranch Supply's catalog they don't show it either...

But that does sound like something I would use- anything to cut down on the number of times you have to handle them..I'm going to have to order some in.....
