North Korea

I first heard this on Paul Harvey News and Comment yesterday and then saw it on my Cell Phone's mobile web.
It appears North Korea's state owned media is telling their citizens that they are ready to respond if we so much as shoot down their test launch before or after it's launched. They say they are prepared for all-out nuclear war.

Im thinkit it was Brazil that said last week that it bought 100,000 AK47s because it expected an American invasion at any time.
Whats wrong with these people? Drug related paranoia?
About N. Korea
It was good that Iraq was handled before they could go nuclear.

The problem with South America is Venequla's Presidente Hugo Chavez, he is extremely anti-American as well as paranoid. He had increased his reserves to over a million in fear of an american invasion. He is also trying to make friends with other countries to fight against us. It has also been noted that he supports the FARC in Columbia. So if Brazil bought that many AK's it has to be from some relationship with Chavez. Oh, I forgot to mention that Chavez is friends with Castro.

The US wont do any shooting without the support of China, Japan, and S. Korea. Those countries have a vested interest in that area, and the US enjoys its relations with those countries. I'm guessing there will be alot of negotiations for a long time. Liberals are the least of GW's worries.

Can't have been Brazil. Try Venezuela. I was talking to a Venezuelan and he says the Prez is out there so it's not just an act.

It must have been Veneszuela. I wasnt really listening to the news. Only had it on in the background but when I heard the part about buying AKs to fight off the American invasion it caught my attention.
First I was shocked at the paranoia! I mean he is crazy if he really expects an invasion.
Then I had to laugh because the idiot apparently thinks he could stop or slow one down with AK47s!

I talk to a Venezualan occasionaly as well, the problem is over 70% of the population support him.

You would consider 70% approval a "problem." Bush would give his eye teeth for a 70% approval rating.

Don't underestimate the AK-47. Out to 250-300m it is a very capable weapon. First of all it has more stopping power then the M16A4/M4A1 and most important it requires far less maintenance. The M16 series requires significant attention to keep it running smoothly. There is plenty of foliage in South America where the AK's range will be quite sufficient.
The maximum effective range of the M16A4 is 550m on a point target, 500m for the shorter barreled M4A1.

They approve of Chavez's communist ideas, theoretically communism is great, but history shows us that it just doesn't work.

What about air power?, night vision?, spy satelites?, tanks? and when I say tanks I dont mean out dated junk. I mean Leopards<3rd generation> or M1 Abrams.
Have you ever seen what an Apachie helicopter can do?
Poorly motavated, poorly trained, poorly equipped, 3rd world troops are not going to have much of a chance to be anything motre than annoying. Even if they number a million.

Problem is if you change that poorly motivated to highly motivated it doesn't matter how much equipment you have in superiority as far as training and weapons. Think vietnam, the US won just about every major engagement but we lost the wa for a number of reasons. Any who, rI doubt we will be invading anything down south for a long long time but I ahve been wrong before.

Chavez is a nutcase but extremely popular in his country.. 70% approval is just about as good as it gets for a pol.

Is it possible to build a satilite that could over ride all missiles and direct them out to space, after they were launched?I know very little about high level weapons, but guided missiles must be programed i suspect.....Is there a way to over ride its destination and change its course mid flight?Does anyone here know the answer to this?

i love the phrase "stopping power",just how do they know this measurement though?...a stopping power tester is a one time job,I hear it takes quite a toll on the body and the pay is never enough.....lol

Stopping power would relate to the weight of the bullet and the velocity behind it. Bottom line, 7.62x39 is bigger then 5.56.

About motivated enemy troops.
Thats what 500lbs smart bombs are for. Knocking the motivation out of enemy troops.
About the M16
Im no fan of it. Atleast its more accurate<gun not cartridge> than the AK.
Both guns are crap in my oppinion.
Best service rifle in my oppinion was the old 30/06 Springfields National Match models that were used in Camp Perry.. But I know im not in the majority on this.
Problem in Nam and in most wars since then are civillians taking part. Historically before that if civillians took part the whole town was anilated in return. Thats what the Germans did to French resistence in WW1.
Nobody wants to kill civillians and we take casualties because of it.

Nonothing
My biggest fear is that somebody will think of a way to take out satilites. It could even happen naturally with a solar storm on the sun. If this happens we are in deep, deep trouble!
Weapons systems, comunications and logistics wont work.

Roper- I wonder if the Canadian PM will rethink supporting Bush on the missile defense system he wanted to build and Canada turned down?...

If this missile fizzled after a few seconds- the next one he may aim at Seattle- and hit Calgary
