Not a Great Day Coming

Our cows are loading out tomorrow-still catch myself telling Shauna about which bulls we'll A'I to which cow next year. We got a pretty good price $1,000 a head picked up at the yard and they took them all. The guy that bought them has been dragging cal;ves at our branding since he was a kid so he knows the cows pretty good. We have about 50 bred heifers and twenty or so 4H cows and their descendants left. I've got a package of heifers coming from Fraser's and I might pick up a PB cow or so at a dispersal coming up. Going to be nice buying a load of hay a month instead of two a week lol.

My thoughts and prayers are with you NR. Fifteen yrs ago we had to disperse a small dairy herd that had been a part of this farm for about a century because of various circumstances, so I know that it is hard to watch years of genetic improvement and hard work be loaded on a truck and be hauled away. May the God of all comfort be with you today and in the coming days.

That is a tough deal, Northern Rancher. At least the cows are going to a good appreciative home, and they brought a very commendable price for the present economy. With all the deer meat in your freezers, you are fixed well for the winter. When your health improves, it won't take long to get stocked again. Sounds like you kept back what will be the nucleus of another great herd.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your wonderful family. Our cheers will continue to go to that already-proven young Canadian bronc rider.

Tough deal, NR. I am sorry you and your family are having to do this. I think you are fortunate that you were able to select the new owner, and know that your cows will continue to get excellent care, and will be well managed.

Hopefully the kiddos bring home a lugger to brighten the spirits of your outfit today.

We'll be sure to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Cheers---

I know you're not supposed to fall in love with a bunch of stupid cows, but I'm sure most of us on here are guilty of it. Like everyone else said, keep your chin up. It could be worse, you could still have them and have to feed the ornery suckers every day.

Will definately keep you all in our prayers.

Kinda had to nod my head at the "fallin in love with cows comment" that's how we all feel or we wouldn't be doin this.

First and foremost tho, is take care of yourself and your family. I know it was a hard thing to do...but you'll have what it takes to whoop this deal in the long run because of it.

NR,sorry to hear about the cows, but the good thing is thier going to someone you know, and at least you had them to sell in the first place.Everytime i get next to the finacial bubble i look out the window and think at least i've got something to sell if need be,that's a blessing, as some folks don't even have that.Good luck pard.

My Uncle told me, when he was at that point in his life, "It was fun puttin' all this together, but it's H_ _ _ _ tryin' to figure out what to do with it now." I had'nt thought of that aspect until then, but it sure made an impression on me then. But being hard has nothing to do with being the right thing. You are doing the right thing, although we know it is hard. Hang in there pal! I, too, will pray for ya.

I know how you feel NR had to say goodbye to our dairy herd in 99, most of which I had bottle fed them myself and picked out who to AI them to. Then last Sept. 70% of the herd left the yard for good, most of which were gentics that I had picked and planned for. Sad day when they leave . The good news is the hay and the fact that you know they are going to someone who will look after them as well as you did and hopefully continues to AI and improve like you would.

Best of luck ..

Ohh it's not the end of the world-I'm thinking of the fun we'll have rebuilding-were lucky to live where we do and have the opportunities we have-by the way my last EXt got sorted off with a Brangus cow out of a 22 point bucking bull while we were loading-the EXT crawled every fence while that Brahmer just stood there-not going to miss that EXT biatch. We didn't have one dry out of our 1/4 Brahma catch colts lol. Still got six of those little buckers running around-get the boys practiced up for next year.

Not the end of the world but it is heart breaking to see them go. I agree with you about building and how exciting it can be ,that is one thing I am looking forward too as well, AI'ing every animal next spring and being super picky in the future as far as genetics go. Rebuilding can be very rewarding ,it just takes time.. :)

We're thinkin' of ya too, bud. Did the new owner take that ol' Angus bull of yer hands?

No we kept all the bulls-I might collect him one more time but we plan to clean up the Lad daughters next year. I dance like I'm in a hockey fight get in a clinch and try and wrk their sweater over their head. Yeah wee got a great price but he knew the cows pretty good-I know some of cows would of broughgt $400 in the yards-big fat cows bring the most at those deals.
