Not a nice surprise.

I see a lot of topics concerning Bulls and one about a nice surprise. I got a not so nice surprise from a 5 year old, ton plus, Char bull today. I was moving my bulls to another pasture when this old boy turned back on me. Ol' Snappy jumped right in front of him like clockwork, but Toro Blanca ducked his head and charged. This bull had never offered to take horse, or man. Sure happened fast as these things do. He hit us in the front, then in the side on her hip as she was spinning. This knocked her out from under me, but I hung on the side Indian style as I didn't relish the idea of a dismount right there. My spur was encouraging Snappy to hurry up as it was hung just below the saddle skirt(not that she was lacking any encouragement about leaving). He was tossing her around like a rag doll. I managed to get out of ol' bulls way then turned loose. I then plowed a furrow with my nose planting my hat and glasses in it. Ol bull was walking calmly away after he had removed the obstacles out of his way. I walked about a mile to catch my horse, then we finished the project without further incident. Nothing hurt but pride--well there may be a sore muscle or two. I don't bounce like I used to!

Sounds like it could have been a bad deal. Glad you survived to tell the tale. Be careful when you deal with that ol' boy the next time. Sometimes a pickup with a good stout grill guard can jar some sense into critters like that.

Good advice fellers! I had thought I would watch him (can"t take my eyes off Him) Will use my PU With stout grill guard to get him in when I take him to the sale barn--soon.

Yes, but the pickup only chases cattle when I want it to. The dogs like to chase cattle all the time, especially when they know I'm not looking. :x :?

Worked for an outfit that had one like that. Puttin salt out one day, surprised a bull down in a cooley & he surprised me by hittin the section of truck that didn't have a grill guard. Took 4 of us to get back on rubber

GLAD YOU ARE OK, WE USUALLY DEAL WITH BOYS LIKE THAT WITH CUR DOGS AND .410 BIRDSHOT.

Ohhhhhhh! So THAT'S why we end up with some lead in the ground beef patties we purchase from a grocery store to cook for the school! :?

Can you just hot shot him from the horse a couple of times? Of course, your horse may object to being ridden by a man with a hot shot in his hand.

My cattle are pretty calm and I can pet the bulls if I want, but I also watch them like a hawk as you never know with them. It's the "nice ones" that kill folks because you get comfy around them.

Could be that this fella would get prodded and ask for more, too. Some cattle aren't that bothered like others are.

If he's a good breeder, I'd try some alternatives to shipping. I would live with a mean bull if he doesn't miss a heat.

Problem is that once they do something--get through a fence in a certain spot, or whatever--they tend to want to do that again. If he's going to get in the habit of rough housing, it may pay to ship him.

How old is he?

Those aged Charolais bulls can get on the hunt pretty bad-I'd can him no bull is worth upsetting a horse over. I WOULDN"T RECCOMMEND HOTSHOTTING HIM OFF A HORSE EITHER lol. He took you once he'll do it again. I'd put an add out for a large amount of hamburger and rifle him.
