OKLAHOMA CITY -- Surgery Center of Oklahoma Medical Director, Dr. Keith Smith believes the Affordable Care Act is designed to fail. And he says his decision to go independent is his best choice yet.

"More and more companies are running away from Obamacare to this oasis called self-funding," said Dr. Keith Smith of Surgery Center of Oklahoma.

Smith won't cover it up.

"We don't believe the government has any role in health care," said Smith.

His practice, Surgery Center of Oklahoma, will not accept any health care under the Affordable Care Act.

"I'm sure that these exchange plans will not equal the amount of our cost of operation," said Smith.

Instead, Smith has taken his work out of network.

"We've tried just about every insurance, but we hope that within the next 12 to 18 months none of our business will be dependent on them," Smith said.

Now the Surgery Center of Oklahoma is on a different network, the online network.

"We have our prices online for everyone to see," said Smith.

Smith said their decision to be independent and put prices online has brought in patients not just out of state, but out of the country to pay out of pocket.

"Many of the prices we have online are within people's deductible expense," said Smith.

And if Smith's plan doesn't work, he won't hesitate to stop his work.

"If the practice of medicine is no longer mutual, then we will close. We'll just walk away," Smith said.

Now Smith did say that the Surgery Center will file with a patient's insurance company out of courtesy. But again he does hope the practice is fully independent within 12 to 18 months.

I believe we are headed for a trainwreck. Once these policies are officially cancelled and nothing is there to replace the policies.
Hospitals and doctors will see the full impact. Never fear the libs will roll out more government intervention as the cure

We have a practice here in Nashville that is dedicated to routine care. Colds, flu, vaccinations, physicals, x-rays, sprains, etc. They even make house calls. They do not accept any insurance plans. You pay cash to them and then you file with your insurance company to recoup your payment. Their response time is great - same day or next, and their charges are much lower than regular doctors since they don't have to hire insurance clerks and they don't have to absorb the costs of patients who fail to pay their bills.

It's too far away for me to use them, but if I were closer, I'd give them a try.

Americans are very innovative. Now if the government would leave us alone to
fix things 'our way' instead of theirs... :!: :!: :!: We're already seeing
ways around this mess, but as was stated, the government will step back in.....and make it worse, yet again. ("the libs will roll out more government intervention as the cure")

Our old neighbor used to say, "If you don't any problems, just wait, the
government will give you some." He has since passed away, but those were
certainly words of wisdom. I'm happy he isn't here to see how bad it has
become.

Obama said if you like your Doctor you can keep your Doctor BUT.

Only 23 percent of 409 New York doctors queried by the State Medical Society said they’re accepting patients who have enrolled in an Obamacare health exchange.

And another 33 percent haven’t decided whether or not to take the patients and become official Obamacare providers, The New York Post reported.

“This is so poorly designed that a lot of doctors are afraid to participate,” said Dr. Sam Unterricht, the president of the New York State Medical Society, an organization with 29,000 members, in The New York Post. “There’s a lot of resistance. Doctors don’t know what they’re going to get paid.”

Of those doctors who said they were participating in Obamacare, their cited reason was they “had to” because of existing contracts with insurers or medical providers. The State Medical Society said only one-fourth of doctors in the state who participated in the survey actually chose to join the Obamacare exchange plan — but fully 77 percent of them had yet to see a fee schedule. They’ve no idea how much they will be paid for their services, The Post said.

Some of the doctors’ written comments to the State Medical Society: “Obamacare wants to start right away, but who sees all these new patients???? Not me,” one wrote.

And another, The Post reported: “I plan to retire if this disaster is implemented. This is a train wreck.”

And another: “I refuse to participate in the exchange plans! I am completely opposed to this new law,” The Post reported.

One more: “The solution is simple. Just say no.”

Gee what was it Oldtimer said about how the Doctors were going to EXCEPT OBAMACARE. Looks like our resident know it all might have been a bit off on the effect of the MANDATE forcing everyone into getting insurance and Doctors exceptance of those extra GOVERNMENT insured patients.

I heard a doctor on FOX the other day commenting on Sibelius's "I don't work for them" comment and his was "Let me tell you something Ms Sibelius millions of US Doctors don't work for the GOVERNMENT.
