SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - At least five people were shot dead and two seriously injured in an apparent murder-suicide at a home in northern California, local media reports said early Monday.

The shootings took place at a residence in an upscale Santa Clara neighborhood outside San Francisco late Sunday, reports said.

Santa Clara police lieutenant Phil Cooke told the San Francisco Chronicle police were called to a home at around 8.30 pm (0330 GMT) on Sunday.

"When they got here, they found multiple gunshot victims inside the home," Cooke said. "There are five confirmed deceased inside the home. Two others were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries."

An adult and several children were among the dead, while an infant and adult had been hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said the suspect was believed to be among the dead.

California has witnessed several murder-suicides involving multiple deaths in recent months.

In January a father apparently upset over the loss of his job shot dead his wife and five children before killing himself in a Los Angeles suburb.

The dead included an eight-year-old girl, five-year-old twin girls and two-year-old twin boys.

In December, a gunman dressed as Santa Claus stormed into the home of his former in-laws on Christmas Eve and opened fire on his ex-wife and her family before setting the house alight.

Nine people were killed in the rampage before the gunman took his own life.

In October, a 45-year-old man shot his wife, three children and mother-in-law before killing himself, reportedly because of financial woes.

NN....in reality its not guns that kill people its people.I don't believe in our registry.I'm not like some on here that believe owning a gun is a right but I do believe we're just registering the legal gun owners not the criminals. This guy prob would have found another way to take the family and himself out not as neat as with a gun.Pretty sure your not interested in this but maybe some of the other Canadians are!

Call to Arms:
Time to shoot down the $2-billion long-gun registry

On April 1st, Parliament will begin debate on a private member’s bill put forward by Garry Breitkreuz, Conservative MP for Yorkton-Melville, Saskatchewan. Bill C-301, would accomplish a number of notable innovations to lower the excessive costs and unnecessary complexities of the Firearms Act without having any negative effect on public safety.

It would eliminate the useless long-gun registry for non-restricted firearms; authorize the Auditor General to perform a cost-benefit analysis every five years; streamline the process for "authorizations to transport" for licensed individuals; combine the possession-only licenses and possession and acquisition licenses; change the license renewal period to 10 years; and change the grandfathering dates for now-prohibited handguns.

For years, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation has made common cause with law-abiding long-gun owners against the money pit that is the federal long-gun registry. What started out as an over-burdensome scheme penalizing long-gun owners, duck-hunters and farmers, quickly turned into a bureaucratic nightmare that left all taxpayers, gun owners and non-owners alike, on the hook for more than $2-billion.
Your financial support allows us to keep the government in our sights on this and other important issues.

MPs from all parties will be lobbied by well-funded special interest groups, some of which receive government funding, hoping to vote down bill C-301. It is imperative that the voices of ordinary citizen-taxpayers be heard saying “enough.”

You can find your MP’s contact information by clicking HERE.

If MPs are allowed a free vote or not, we need your help in turning up the heat on our representatives in Ottawa! Please do what you can by mailing, calling or e-mailing your MP to demand they vote in favour of bill C-301.

I'm not like some on here that believe owning a gun is a right

Owning a gun is undoubtedly a right in the U.S.

As has been said here before: It's in our "Bill Of Rights".

And "Shall Not Be Infringed".
There are several versions of the text of the Second Amendment, each with slight capitalization and punctuation differences, found in the official documents surrounding the adoption of the Bill of Rights.[1] One such version was passed by the Congress, which reads:[2]

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Another version is found in the copies distributed to the states, and then ratified by them, which had this capitalization and punctuation:[3]

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House and Senate, was prepared by scribe William Lambert and resides in the National Archives.

Why license them?

There is only one reason to licence them, eventual ban. It will still make no difference to whether the criminal choose to have them or not.

This issue just brings the liberal way of thinking into the spotlight. They are much better equiped to make decisions on guns than we as conservatives are! They can spend our money better! They can run companys better! They are more intelligent than conservatives and aren't afraid to tell ya that! The logic you present about guns just being a tool to be used for good or evil by the holder of the weapon makes no sense to liberals because they know they can solve everything by more government. By passing legislation and limiting access everything eventually will just become one big happy Disney movie! Now i get that will tick some of ya off but isn't it true? Liberals feel they know more than conservatives. They feel we aren't progressive enough in our thinking and we need to have more tolerance. And yet they are mostly intolerant of anything we value as a conservative. I did say MOSTLY! I just wonder how all the examples of gun violence would have been dramatically changed by just one properly trained law abiding citizen carrying a legal concealed weapon?

Alway seems to me that those at either end of the political spectrum seem to think they know more than their counterparts.
Kind of irritating actually.

Just like a car.at least learn how to use one first. Is it that hard to ask a new gun owner to at least now how to shoot them properly....That video today showed how a little know how would go a long way in making guns safer for the shooter.....

So I guess cars will be banned to? ...as you need a license to drive one......

Licensing guns has nothing to do with knowing how to use them, nono.

I have been searching for the Amendment that deals with our Right to drive a car.

I have not been able to find that one either.

Maybe driving is only just a "Privilege" and not an actual "Right"?

I do see where we have "freedom of speech" & "freedom of religion" while driving a car though.

Beside you throwing out accusations about Mike is total fearmongering. All he has ever done is support the Second Amendment. All you want to do is infringe on our Rights. Now that is someone who is scary.
