Not my favorite Job.

Not really recommending a particular 'breed', but for us in our '70's, comfort and safety are BIG factors. Right along with low maintaince, decent mileage, low road noise. Price? Everything seems too high in today's extreme tax increase world!

What about 4x4 versus AWD? Our dau who lives in Omaha area with their black ice-slush-deep snow-frozen ruts during fall-winter-spring drove AWD for years, then chanced to drive a 4x4 and that normally drive-it-forever lady was sold on 4x4 for better driving those conditions.

I personally favor an SUV body style, room for five or more, even though most often there are only two of us. It means taking one car instead of two when there are more people involved in say, a day trip several times a year. Like the clearance, load space and convenience, visibility (I don't think my days of carrying meals to pastures over some not so great trails are over) and it's easier on the back to load whatever we buy. Maybe partly is the fact it isn't likely to be turned into a ranch vehicle!

I don't envy anyone the decision making and shopping experience, so best of luck with all of it!

So who is driving a Dodge Journey and can give me a report on it? They come with AWD available which could be nice.

They tend to be problematic, burnt. I like the looks of them, but they aren't
rated very reliable. Had a friend who bought one, I liked it, but soon she
wasn't driving it any more. They had too many problems with it and turned it
back into the dealership for something else. She drives a Ford Edge now and
has been real happy with it.

Do a bit of research online and you'll see what I mean about the Dodge Journey.

From what I have found the newer models have made some changes that boosted their reliability, 2011 and up. '09's appear to have been the worst.

All good info, thanks!

Hers certainly could have been an '09...
My old boss at the newspaper just bought a new one and so far they really
like it, but they haven't had it long. She says its very comfortable. FWIW

All good info, thanks!

Well we decided to buy "preowned" (dontcha love the term).

Ended up with a 2011 Journey well within our budgeted range for used.

What really helped is that it is month end and another dealer was desperate to make a "new" sale to help them make their target for the month, thus qualifying for bonus's from Chrysler.

So for once, I found that I was completely in charge of the process with hard figures in my hand from two dealerships, both wanting to do business.

Month end, hard figures, cash deal, complete indifference as to what vehicle I buy - the whole situation made for a good deal.

What blew me away was that I could have bought a new Journey with the lower end options package for just a little over 18G. So that will give you some idea what a 2011 with 30000 km. (18.6 miles) might be worth - a whole lot less!

Prolly won't even mourn the old Caravan too long . . . :)

Ow ow.

Ya or maybe our youngest son who will likely poke his head into it sometime.

One time I was giving him a hard time about reading the whole operator's manual on an electronic gadget that we bought.

He replied without even looking up from it - "It's surprising how much you can learn by reading a manual" and I thought, kid, you ain't my son. 8)

burnt, women read owners manuals to be prepared.........as opposed to "when all else fails" as some of the men do that chore.
