Good morning, all!! the hubby is outside with the local vet and a good friend and they are "testing the bulls" (think I'll sit this out, thanks   ) and I just stepped outside into the soaker we are getting and I could not help but think about how good things smell after a nice rain!! Fresh and clean.....what a beautiful way to start a day!!! Sure need the moisture, too, as our snow pack is 90% gone and it is only May!! Gonna be a nasty summer unless we continue to get this sort of nice rain...nothing heavy, just slow and soaking!! Hope the rest of you are having as good a day!!! :D :D
Take care, my friends!!

I miss the smell of rain, down here it's not the same, with the humidity we have, it doesn't have much if any smell when it rains. Only when it's been extremely dry do we get the "rain smell"

Was talkin about the smell of rain to a friend of mine, and she never knew rain has a smell. She's lived in this area all her life, until last summer durin the worst of the drought, we had a shower in the late afternoon, she called, and was all excited, because she could smell the rain.
I remember lots of times growin up in west texas, you could smell it, before it got there. Or sometimes...more often than not, it was a real small shower that missed you, and you just got teased with the smell.

Generally out here the rain gets within 20 foot of the ground then it dries up before it hits! So the smell just sorta floats around and teases you like Jersey said!   :p

Its so dry here...but my folks say they are dry in South Dakota to. Everyone could use a good shower! Hope it comes!

I lied  Just before noon we had a little shower roll thru for about 15 minutes that put down enough to get the top of the ground wet and make things smell nice :) ......Isn't too bad here now-temp about 80 with cloud cover, but the wind is picking up- predicting 40mph winds this afternoon......

FH- The good news is that the weather boys latest SWAG is that the temps will stay down thru at least the first week or two of June- predicting highs of 60's and mid 70's-- give the grass a chance to grow without heading out and save on the water holes.....

This is one of my favorite sites:
http://science.howstuffworks.com/question479.htm

Its great for kids and adults. The only problem is it takes the inspiration or neatness (not sure of the right word to use here) out of the smell of rain.
If you have ever wondered about must anything, you should find the answer on this site.

Boy did I miss things- I should apply for a weatherman job   They were predicting 30% chance of rain---Thunderstorms rolled in from the east (wrong direction for around here) about 5PM and in some areas it really dumped... Got .75 on the north place- few miles east got 2 inches and water running over the roads and dams- I heard south of the Missouri in McCone County some areas got over 3 inches...Same down toward Faster Horses direction..

And it appears that it isn't over yet- still getting little showers :D :D

Smelling nicer and nicer....
