Interesting conversation going on Macons other site (cattletoday)-- thought I would bring it over here...
It just dawned on me that yesterday was the 44th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination. Does everyone who's old enough remember where you were when you got the news?

I was walking back to the old high school from the little store/deli across the street from the school- during noon hour when a bunch of girls came up to us screaming "Kennedy's been shot" ...I thought they were nuts, until I got into the school and all the school was abuzz--spent the afternoon of classes listening to the happenings on the radio-or watching a couple TV's they had set up in the library and study hall....

I am too young, but I am facinated at the amout of things that appear to have been covered up, set aside, or rushed away to keep the conspiracy theories going.

my mom says there is no way the govt. could do this, but I asked her if she was sure the govt. runs the country....... is our president just a puppet? our Congress just a charade?

where does the REAL power lay????? oh, the web that we weave!

I remember the day we were in school, we got out early that day and had to watch it all on TV and then write a report about what went on so as not to lose a day of school. One of the things I still see today very clear as the car goes by and than Kennedy slumping over.

I was not even a twinkle in daddy's eye yet, but can recall my mom talking about being in grade school and having her math teacher burst into uncontrolled sobs when the news came over the school speaker system!! Just watching the film of the assassination turns my stomach!! Hard to believe that it's been 44 years!!

I was in 8th grade English class and it came over the loud speaker. Listened to the news over the loud speaker the rest of the day. All the kids and teacher was stunned. 20 years ago or so, there was an all day special entirely on the assassination and funeral and all --I have it on video tape. I guess I should put it to CD or DVD before tape goes bad.

We had just moved to a ranch east of Buffalo, Wyoming on Clear Creek that we were able to lease a couple of years later. I was ironing and watching tv on an old, old, black and white set we managed to have.

I'd almost forgot about the part about everyone being worried that this was done by the Russians- and that they might attack us- or us attack them....At that time we still had an AFB with a fighter squadron and a B-52 Squadron--and all the Base kids went to High School in town with us....That afternoon the sky was full of planes going every direction-and all the base kids were worried sick about their parents- wondering if they were in a B-52 on their way to bomb Russia....

When the Base kids went home on the bus- the schools bus's which normally delivered kids all over base weren't allowed on....The kids were dropped off at the main gate- and then had to board Air Force bus's which delivered them around the base.....

And then if I remember right- it was a Friday- and we weren't going to miss Friday night fun...So several of us guys did the gentlemanly thing and took some of the young ladies out to my house (the folks had moved to town because of Dads health) and consoled them while watching it all on TV...

I was in my college dorm and heard it on the radio. Everyone on the floor was stunned. We headed over to the crowded cafeteria which was unusually hushed as if a funeral parlor.

was only 5 but remember the funeral , the horses pulling the casket.
Was walking across campus the day Regan was shot, girls screaming everywhere. No room in the student union everybody was trying to see the TV up on the wall.

I was in 2nd grade. Our school had an intercom system (yes, in the early 60's we had that) and our principal announced the death of our president. I remember all of us were crying, including myself.

WOW that sure brought up some memories!

I was on the K-State livestock judging team and we were in Stillwater, OK
working out on hogs. When we got back in Don Goods Pontiac station wagon headed for Manhattan and turned on the radio we heard. We were all stunned.

I was almost three years old, don't remember a thing about it, except for what I've seen on TV thru the years. But I"m sure our old Zenith console TV was tuned to CBS (mom always watched As the World Turns)
