And who decides when there is an emergency?

Under the Bush passed Homeland Security Act and the Patriot Act- most of that power is now in the hands of the President....

The reason for sometime I said- remember "what goes around comes around"- after the Repub controlled Congress refused to question the powers they were giving away.... :???:
And now that that power is in the hands of a Dem - Rightwingernuts and backslapping Repubs are peeing down their legs.... :p

Is it any worse than his predecessor- the corporate fascist that thought God was talking to him - and who was the first to take this unlimited power thru usuption of the Constitution and failure to follow any law he didn't like ... :???:

But I blame that on the Repub Congress that never questioned him- and the backslappers who chastised anyone that did...

Yes, it is worse. Obama is doing everything Bush did, and just adding to it.

Uh are your following the original post and article, it is talking about a new bill to change that power to more fit Obama's desire.

This is not Obama using what Bush did, it is him changing it to what he wants.

That's what I was wondering. If Bush already gave these powers to the Executive, then why the new bill?

Under the Bush passed Homeland Security Act and the Patriot Act- most of that power is now in the hands of the President....

Take advantage, invest in the companies that have the contracts with the Governement.

Don't know what the new internet bill will end up-- but in everything else- disasters, epidemics, civil unrest, etc. etc.-- the Bush passed Homeland Security Act (the biggest Bureacracy builder in modern history) and the Patriot Act gave all that power to the President-- with, in some cases, months before they have to go to Congress for their approval....

One promising move of the Obama administration is their moves to put back the right to habeas corpus- one of the rights GW usurped...

Yep-- some they don't have evidence to criminally convict- but can't let go in this country- and no country wants them (should have never been brought onto US soil in the first place)--- but the majority that can be handled thru US courts will be....But even those being indefinitely held will be given tribunal hearings to determine if there is reason to hold them- and then periodic hearings to determine status....

The SCOTUS- in its rulings against GW- said that was enough to meet their standards- but GW would never even follow that..
