Now That I Actually NEED Semen.....

gizmom-- thanks for the pictures...Yours kind of back up the one Sinclairs have in their Sire Directory...Interesting how all those 707 sons have that old N Bar look to them...Apparently some strong genetic thing there...

Now that was probably valuable. Who ever heard of an old Chi? :P

How do you AI a Chihuahua?

Geez, here for a minute I thought that BMR would just dang near die of excitement that any poodle semen was out of MYT's reach. And here we go talking about breeding dogs. Harold Miller did say dogs were one of the first domestic animals to be A.I.ed.

Is this Harold Miller from Akron, CO? He is to put on a program for my AI tech next week. Any info on him would be appreciated.

I used 6807 in the late early ninties, the biggest group of cows I got were D,s(93) models. They were decent uddered cows, fairly easy keeping, one cow in particular tkra 14D, was the easiest fleshing cow I,ve ever had on the place never raised any replacement worthy calves though and came open as a five year old. To be fair though we have been very demanding in regards to fertility with a 48 day breeding season since 1985, but 14D's modest milk and "buxom" condition did not equal fertility. The 6807 feet were a weak point also, front especially. Never was able to raise a bull from 6807 that passed a BSE. Poor semen that was a result of consistently poorly developed testicles specifically under developed epididymal tails, accounting for all the secondary semen defects. Subsequent phone calls to GDAR, DHD, and Hawkeye West general manager back the early nineties confirmed this as a common problem. If you use any bull enough your bound to get the odd good one. I guess 40 straws wasn't enough.

I dunno if I'm late to reply to this or not. In any case, yes, he is from Akron, CO. As far as I am concerned, Harold knows breeding cows better than anyone I know of, and I know some pretty gifted guys. He sure explains things in depth and makes sure you get what you're learning. When you get to live cows, he can tell you exactly what you're feeling and where you're at. But then, this is Mr. I let my tank run dry, so maybe I shouldn't speak for him. But he also does a good job of teaching semen handling. I may have let my tank run dry, but according to our heat cycles, I nailed 65% first heat. We'll see here come April.
