Obama blames American guns for Mexican deaths

Is this rich, or what?

‘I think many of you know that in America, our Constitution guarantees our individual right to bear arms,’ Obama said. ‘And as president, I swore an oath to uphold that right, and I always will.’

‘But at the same time, as I’ve said in the United States, I will continue to do everything in my power to pass common-sense reforms that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people.’

‘That can save lives here in Mexico and back home in the United States,’ Obama added. ‘It’s the right thing to do.’

While Mexican citizens have their own constitutional right to bear arms, Mexico City has only a single licensed gun shop and the nation’s military controls it, according to a 2009 National Public Radio broadcast.

In part because they lack legal avenues to purchase the weapons they are entitled to own, Mexicans have turned to a black market – including guns purchased in the U.S. and smuggled to the south.

I think there's something like 23 million people in Mexico City.

I guess Obama forgot his botched "fast - furious" plan handed many of those criminals and dangerous people guns?

Obama also did not mention the more than 2,000 firearms that his Department of Justice ‘walked’ across the Mexican border as part of Operation Fast and Furious, a federal law enforcement project that aimed to track weapons to drug traffickers.

Those guns have been connected to the deaths of at least 300 Mexican citizens. And U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry died in December 2010 when a so-called ‘Fast and Furious gun’ was recovered at the scene of his murder during a routine patrol in Arizona.

An ensuing Congressional investigation led to the first-ever citation of a sitting cabinet member – Attorney General Eric Holder – for contempt of Congress. Holder declined to provide most of the more than 140,000 documents subpoenaed by a House committee, although the Department of Justice did selectively turn over thousands of others.

Mexico's problems are all our fault. We are buying the drugs that keep the cartels rocking and furnishing the guns for them to do so.

March 26, 2009 - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday that America's "insatiable" demand for illegal drugs and its inability to stop weapons from being smuggled into Mexico are fueling an alarming spike in violence along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Clinton said the United States shares responsibility with Mexico for dealing with the violence and that the Obama administration will work with Mexican authorities to improve security on both sides of the border.

President Barack Obama himself said Tuesday that he wanted the U.S. to do more to prevent guns and cash from illicit drug sales from flowing across the border into Mexico. But Clinton's remarks appeared more forceful in recognizing the U.S. share of the blame. In the past, particularly under the Bush administration, Mexican official have complained that Washington never acknowledged the extent that the U.S. demand for drugs and weapons smuggling fuels the violence.

"I feel very strongly we have a co-responsibility," Clinton told reporters accompanying her to Mexico City a day after the Obama administration said it would send more money, technology and manpower to secure the Southwestern frontier and help Mexico battle the cartels.

"Our insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade," she said. "Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border to arm these criminals causes the deaths of police officers, soldiers and civilians."

I did a Bighorn Sheep hunt in Sonora back in Dec 2000 and things were pretty hairy back then. I can only imagine what they're like now. Wouldn't attempt that hunt today.

We'd be driving across the desert in the dark to/from a sheep hunt and suddenly get stopped by a group of heavily-armed soldiers. After exiting the truck and explaining what we were doing, about 20 more heavily-armed soldiers would come up out of the darkness from all directions.

And those guys were always the most serious I've ever seen....never a smile and except for the boss, they wouldn't look you directly in the eye.

So when is Hussein going to blame Ford, Chevy and Chrysler for all those highway deaths? Or when will he blame Boeing for the deaths in the last crash that took place? Or when will he blame the farmer in South America that grows the dope?

I am even seeing negative press in socialist Canada indicating that he has lost his way and is no longer even a person worth paying attention to. When you read that in the Globe and Mail and the Star - two true lefty Canadian papers - you know Hussein is going to be remembered as the great hope loser.

Things are going to get very bad in the US of A over the next few years unless the economy picks up fast.

Amazing isn't it that the likes of OT and Kola literally wet their panties every time the guy spoke.

I just shake my head. It's a shame stupidity isn't painful, though in this case it may be.

Obama speaking with the Mexican flag behind him seems more appropriate than seeing him speak with the US flag behind him.

One final comment for this thread.

When someone blows up a building and kills a bunch of people - we blame the man/men/terrorists.

When someone shoots someone - it seems everyone wants to blame the gun.

Never could understand that
