What can explain this behavior?

#1 A public display of U.S. subserviency to Saudi Arabia.
#2 He felt bound to show allegiance to his true faith, bowing to the King of the country of the two cities.
#3 Completely ignorant of protocol.
#4 Just plain stupid.
#5 He was in the process of picking up a penny.

Between 2 and 4, I might have to lean towards 4. 5 isn't even relevant! What's a penny when he has trillions pumping into the economy?

As a Canadian and a military man I am actually astonished at this photo.

I am also surprized it has not been flashed to every media outlet in the country of the United States.

I wonder if it is a real photo - or if it has been "shopped".

If it is a real photo it strikes me that what we have seen here is a muslem bowing to the king of the muslems.

Then again - was your president truly even born in your country? The media sure does not show much interest in that either.

You guys are really showing some interesting and very worrying tendencies as a nation lately.

Cheers

The other thing I noticed about the video, it looked like everybody else was in their spots and sat after the Queen did, except Obama, who looked like he was delaying to be the last in spot.

Narcisism, I guess

it's respect when they both bow, as in Japan,... unless your a female then your required to be a bit lower in stature at all times.. so really bowing is more about power then respect,..

it is respect of a higher authority when you bow down to someone who stays upright....

You've got to be kidding! Americans (especially American Presidents) do not bow to foreign monarchs because that act signifies the monarch's power over his subjects. Mutual RESPECT between foreign leaders is to shake hands while looking in each others eyes. He took 500 aids with him on this trip. I would think that one of those aids would be a specialist on protocol.

They are our allies...should the President NOT show respect to our allies?

Respect varies from culture to country.

Here a ' thumbs up' means things are going OK....in Egypt it means ' up your azz' and is a MAJOR insult!!!

Some cultures, you don't ' shake hands' as the King/Ruler is deemed
' divine' and you don't shake the hand of a God.

I'm sure his aides advised him and all the rules were followed.

Again, with ALL the MAJOR problems going on here and in the world in general....you people pick the tiniest most usless thing to harp on.

Are you related to Tam?

It seems that doesn't matter as they remain our alllies.

To me, I think they are horrible in regards to civil rights/women's rights.....but the US considers them a staunch friend of the US.......thus respected.

Saudu Arabia has one thing that we might learn something from:
In the Saudi legal system, women face discrimination. An example of this is the requirements for testifying in criminal proceedings; The witness must be deemed sane, the age of an adult, and a Muslim. Non-Muslims may not testify in criminal court. Women may not testify unless it is a personal matter that did not occur in the sight of men. The testimony of a woman is not regarded as fact but as presumption. The reasons women are forbidden to testify in proceedings are (quote):[15][16]

1-Women are much more emotional than men and will, as a result of their emotions, distort their testimony.
2-Women do not participate in public life, so they will not be capable of understanding what they observe.
3-Women are dominated completely by men, who by the grace of God are deemed superior; therefore, women will give testimony according to what the last man told them.
4-Women are forgetful, and their testimony cannot be considered reliable.

Yet Bush was always condemned for being "friendly" to the Saudis.

Public opinion does not matter betweens Heads of State and the protocol involved.

Just what's right and proper. Maybe the Japanese "emperor" or someone else will visit the US and give Mr. "O" a jumping high five, and Michelle a butt slap and a hip bump. That would make everybody in the "hood" happy anyway.
