We Are Winning: Support Grows for Fred Thompson's Renew the Bush Tax Cuts Effort
Dear Friend:
We are winning!
This summer when we launched our national petition campaign to Renew the Bush Tax Cuts with the endorsement of Sen. Fred Thompson, it looked like we had a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding.
But your help and the support from millions of Americans are making a huge difference.
Just two months ago the Democrats were talking about allowing the Bush cuts to expire at the end of this year, but adding a value-added tax or national sales tax.
Now three powerful Democrats in the Senate, including Sen. Kent Conrad, are calling for the Bush Tax Cuts to be fully extended, including for
the so-called "wealthy."
And a new Rasmussen poll finds that a solid 54 percent of Americans want the Bush Tax Cuts to be fully renewed.
Sen. Fred Thompson has been our national spokesman for this effort and he is not only appearing in the League's TV ads, but going on national TV and radio
shows.
As you may have already seen, Fred was a guest on Sean Hannity’s show on FOX News. Hannity premiered our powerful TV ad to a national TV audience.
Senator Thompson warns of what will happen at the end of this year:
"Unless Congress acts, those tax hikes are going to hit like a ton of bricks.
"When the Bush cuts expire, income tax rates will rise by 10 percent or more for every tax bracket.
"Capital gains taxes will rise by one-third, and the top rate on dividend taxes will almost triple.
"These tax increases will have a devastating effect on the economy."
As Sen. Thompson says you can't raise taxes like this in a recession!
Our message is clearly resonating with the American people.
I can tell you that the liberals in Washington fear the League's petition effort and Fred Thompson's public role.
We have already been the target of major media attacks.
For example, Fred and the League were viciously attacked by ultra-liberal MSNBC TV host Rachel Maddow, who used an entire segment of her show to smear the organization I lead.
But I’m proud to wear Maddow’s attack as a “badge of honor.”
Recently I appeared on the FOX News show The Strategy Room, and debated liberal Democrat operative Bob Beckel, who believes the Obama Kool-Aid of tax hikes and more government spending lead to eternal prosperity.
Because of your support, our campaign to Renew the Bush Tax Cuts has gained tremendous momentum -- we already have over 100,000 Americans signing our petition to Congress!
What can you do to help us in the critical effort?
We urgently need to buy more TV ads, online ads and other media to win this battle.

Congress will be reconvening in September and Pelosi is promising a vote on the Bush tax cuts before the November election.
It is absolutely critical we alert the American public to the dangers of not renewing these tax cuts. We need them to tell their Congressmen and Senators to fully renew these cuts.
We need to build the groundswell of support before the vote comes.
Right now the League’s TV ad is running everywhere on all of the cable news networks, including FOX News.

Thank you all for helping us make a difference.
Sincerely,
Bob Adams
Executive Director
P.S. – Obama and Pelosi are playing the old "class warfare" trick, saying they want to renew the Bush Tax Cuts but only raise taxes on the wealthy. That's a lie. They want to increase taxes for everyone's capital gains and dividend income. And the tax on the "wealthy" will crush small business people all over the whole country. No wonder jobs are not being created! We believe Congress has not completely lost their sense and we can get the Bush tax cuts fully renewed, but we need your help to do it -- read Fred Thompson's urgent letter --
