Obama said he would get the troops out of Iraq in sixteen months, now it is nineteen. He still plans to have perhaps as many as 50,000 in Iraq after that time.

No, I am not blaming Obama for that, others were glossing it over, now he has to face reality. I do blame those of us who believed him.

He said what he did, to get votes. He saw that the public opinion was swaying against troops in Iraq.

What he should have done, if he was an honest man, was to say "Look, I'm not privy to all the intel, when it comes to Iraq. If the American voters trust me, and I am fortunate enough to become President, then I will commit to gain all knowledge available on the situation, and then make a decision on the best manner to proceed. I will do this in an expedious manner, so as to protect the American people.

Obama called Bush from Air Force 1 before he made his speech today at the Base. Wouldn't you have liked to hear what that conversation was. I bet it went smoother that the one where Pelosi found out about his plans.

After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) complained that the level of troops -- 50,000 -- who would remain in Iraq is too high, other senior Democrats voiced similar concerns. Not one member of the Democratic leadership, except for Sen. Richard J. Durbin (Ill.), defended the new Obama plan, which will take three months longer than he promised and still leave a significant force structure on the ground.
