(he said he would regulate the coal industry out of business)

Nearly $1 Billion In Wages And Benefits Has Been Ripped Out Of The Economies Of … Coalfield Communities’

‘Regulations Coming From The Environmental Protection Agency … Are Slowly But Surely Putting A Stranglehold On The Lives And Livelihoods Of Tens Of Thousands’

UNITED MINE WORKERS OF AMERICA: “Average coal employment in the United States dropped 17.1 percent over the last two years. West Virginia alone lost more than 2,500 coal jobs over that time. Kentucky lost another 6,000 and coal employment there has dropped to the lowest level since 1927. That means that nearly $1 billion in wages and benefits has been ripped out of the economies of the largely rural West Virginia and Kentucky coalfield communities in just two years.” (Cecil Roberts, President Of United Mine Workers Of America, Op-Ed, Charleston Gazette, 3/30/14)

· MINE WORKERS: “Downturns are common in the coal industry. But this one may never end because of a host of regulations coming from the Environmental Protection Agency that are slowly but surely putting a stranglehold on the lives and livelihoods of tens of thousands of coal miners, utility workers, electrical workers, boilermakers, railroad workers and their families.” (Cecil Roberts, President Of United Mine Workers Of America, Op-Ed, Charleston Gazette, 3/30/14)

Kentucky: 20,000+ Impacted By Democrat War On Coal Families

“…in coal country, the changes have meant layoffs. Nowhere has been hit harder than eastern Kentucky, where more than 6,000 miners have lost their jobs since January 2012. For each mining job, there are estimated to be at least three directly related jobs, like trucking, that also disappear.” (Fox News, 1/16/14)

· “According to [Bill] Bissett, [the president of the Kentucky Coal Association] the coal industry has lost more than 6,000 direct jobs, and 18,000 people indirectly connected to the coal industry are out of work. Coal production in Eastern Kentucky is down 30 percent…” (Commonwealth Journal [KY], 1/7/14)

Coal Miner: ‘Never Know From Day To Day If You Are Going To Have A Job’

KAY HAMMOND, Appalachian Pregnancy Care Center Director: “A 32 year old father (unemployed miner…) walked into the pregnancy center one day last week and said ‘Someone told me you guys could help me with baby items – I don’t come from a family that has ever had to ask for help. I feel humiliated, but my baby is suffering.’ The look on his face broke my heart – this is the plight of many of our families in East Ky as their livelihood is being taken away by the War on Coal.” (Sen. McConnell, Constituent Mail)

GARY LOCKHART, Coal Miner: “Our biggest worries now are just trying to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, telling your family that this was all caused by the EPA, directed by our President for his political agenda.” (Coal Listening Session, Kentucky, 12/6/13)

· LOCKHART: “Many of these men who have never asked the government for any kind of assistance in their lives, also having to go home and tell their families that their pay’s going to be cut to practically nothing. There’ll be very little Christmas this year, no vacations, nothing extra.” (Coal Listening Session, Kentucky, 12/6/13)

PHILLIP CONLEY, Coal Miner: “I just believe the Obama administration has taken a huge impact on the coal industry and Appalachia. Anymore, you just never know from day to day if you are going to have a job or not.” (Fox News, 1/16/14)

BILL STAGGS, Local Businessman & Pastor: “From a business that is indirectly affected by coal, we have had to lay off employees due to the closings of mines and the effect they have had. Our business is losing thousands of dollars due to the negative impact of the EPA. As a pastor… our benevolence to the community has increased fivefold with help for food, power bills, clothing and just the day to day living expenses that families need.” (Sen. McConnell, Constituent Mail)
