President Barack Obama's request for authority to streamline U.S. executive agencies was greeted with skepticism from congressional Republicans while Democrats questioned elements of his reorganization plan.

The president said yesterday he wants to be able to undertake any consolidation that would save money and shrink government, subject to a "fast-track" vote of approval or disapproval by Congress in 90 days.

He said his first action would be replacing the Commerce Department with a yet unnamed agency that folds in the U.S. Trade Representative, the Export-Import Bank, the Overseas Private Investment Corp., the Trade and Development Agency and the Small Business Administration.

"The government we have is not the government that we need," Obama said yesterday at the White House. "Our economy has fundamentally changed — as has the world — but our government, our agencies, have not."

I'm sure that Obama would like to have a new government but I doubt the US voters are going to allow a DICTATORSHIP. The less power this idiot has the better off the US will be.

I'm fine with consolidating agencies but it is in name only? If we have several agencies that all do the same thing lets can a lot of it and lay people off thats the only thing that is going to save Taxpayers money. Closing a couple and keeping the same number of people on staff isn't going to save a dime.

as a child there is a word game called "which one doesn't fit"...

all except the small business administration are agencies that funnel US tax revenue overseas under the guise of trade, all have articles written over the last few years that would outrage the average taxpayer...

yet when ever a politician mentions adding more to the SBA, few would vote against it.. why because up until now it has been a worthy government program....

take a minute or two, to look into the trade programs and the associated funding scandals.. most tax paying Americans would probably vote to scrap them all.,.. as just another federal handout to foreign entities that do little to actually help US exports or free fair trade..

is this just another way to use the SBA to funnel cash over seas?

The Problem with Obama is the tricks he plays. He claims he is fiscally responsible and wants to cut the budget . Yes he demands cuts BUT the cuts equal a fraction of what he has grown the budget since he took office. The same is happening here he claims he wants to cut the size of government but the cuts will be a fraction of what he has grown it with his socialist agenda. In the end it will still be a government size and budget the US tax payers can't afford. All we can hope is the voters are smart enough to open their eyes and see though his slight at hand tricks.

I personally can't see how anyone is dumb enough to believe him when he claims he is a job creator. All you have to do is look at the unemployment numbers when he took office and compare them to what they are now to see he is a liar. If the unemployment numbers are higher now he has not created enough to overcome the ones he has lost with his big government big spending policies.
