Obama says we should learn Spanish

Obama stuck his foot in it again. When the right starts making ads with him saying it will be just another nail in his coffin.

I will paraphrase him because I can not find an official transcript online.

But he said "Instead of worrying about Illegal immigrants learning English, we should worry about our Children learning Spanish"

I believe he also said he was embarrassed because other nations know English when they come here but we go to other countries and do not know their language.

Man when the put that clip of hims saying "Instead of worrying about Illegal immigrants learning English, we should worry about our Children learning Spanish" into a TV ad he will be toast.

I can not view it but I believe here is a link to you tube to watch it in person. Let me know if it is a bad link or does not say what I stated above.

When put in context- it was nowhere as bad as what McCain told the Spanish groups in the closed session meetings when he was pandering to them- telling them that "Spanish was the first language spoken in his home state Arizona"....

Obama made that comment in the same speach that P.O.ed Jesse- when he was telling parents that they need to take more responsibilty in raising and educating their children and in order to give their children a better chance of being a success-- one thing that parents should make sure of is that their kids are fluent in a second language- and he recommended Spanish since its so widely used now in the US...

This is exactly what I've advised my kids to do with the grandkids if they get a chance to-- since so many jobs including many good government jobs require fluency in Spanish, like Customs and the Border Patrol...And many professions/occupations that don't require it- still are now paying bilingual employees more...

You are spinning to lessen what Obama said. He is embarrassed that more of us do not know a second language..............We should WORRY about our children learning Spanish.

We should not WORRY about it, sure it would be nice if kids knew another language no matter what it is. Any education is good. But WORRY about it?

He was giving this speech in reference to making English the official language. It sure sounds like he is against that.

OT you are so against illegal immigration, but you are pandering to Obama here. I think this is what Mike was pointing out, you come down on conservatives and call us neocons but you never go against your liberal buddies.

Here is an issue you should be outraged at, based on your past rants on this website buy no you spin it into McCain being worse. This is why you have lost so much respect on here from the time I joined up until now.

You have proven not to think on your own, you are a kool aid drinker just like fff. This issue proves it!

It just amazes me that all you Rep's are so fearful of something new or a change in the " old way", be it a simple language or not.

Why not bust a brain cell or two once and awhile and try to learn another language...or anything that is ' foreign ' to you??

All you want to do is scream " flip flop" and point out that someone has changed their out look on a topic.

Why is it so bad that someone, anyone, has the ability to change their opinion, outlook or strategy on a topic?

I'd think it would be considered an admirable trait to be able to think and adapt to the changes as they come instead of staying put in the rut and let things run you over because you're so narrow minded you won't change/adapt.

Simply because its a non-issue now...Don't you remember the McCain/Kennedy/Bush bill :???: It doesn't matter which of these two get in- they're both supporting amnesty...McCain more so in the Mexican backrooms, while spouting border security and then amnesty to try and pacify the conservatives... Obama says much the same....

McCains still waddling and quacking like a wetback duck (in between singing courses of Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran)...When he's with the Mexican groups- or flying down to meet with the President of Mexico (where he spent US Independence Day  ) he's all but giving the country away...
And you know that if Dems get control (which is almost a gimme)- there will be a massive amnesty- so they can get more Dems on the voting rolls- and better get a chance for a 20-30 year dynasty...

MEXICO CITY: From the white roses he laid before a likeness of Mexico's blessed saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe, to the endorsement he gave for an overhaul of American immigration laws, Senator John McCain used a visit to Mexico on Thursday to appeal to residents of both sides of the border: Mexicans and, more urgently, their voting relatives and other Latinos in the United States.

"We must secure our borders and then we will address the issue of comprehensive immigration reform," McCain said at a news conference in a helicopter hangar that was interrupted by the deafening sound of a heavy rainstorm that made his remarks unintelligible.

McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, has faced criticism from some of his fellow Republicans for spending time in Colombia and Mexico just as the general election battle heats up, but his campaign officials feel that the trip could resonate among voters back home by promoting his support of free trade, while highlighting his immigration views during his time in Mexico.

Comprehensive immigration reform- isn't that what they called the Bush/McSame amnesty bill :???:

Barack Obama's Plan
Create Secure Borders
Obama wants to preserve the integrity of our borders. He supports additional personnel, infrastructure and technology on the border and at our ports of entry.

Improve Our Immigration System
Obama believes we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill.

Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally
Obama will remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants.

Bring People Out of the Shadows
Obama supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens.

Work with Mexico
Obama believes we need to do more to promote economic development in Mexico to decrease illegal immigration.

Now tell me whos the Liberal- and whos the other Liberal :???:

I agree it is good to get any education. I took Spanish in school and i will probably encourage my kids to do the same thing.

But when a President candidate stands in front of a special interest group and says we should not worry about immigrants learning English we should be concerned about our kids learning English! That is wrong!

There is no need to worry about it, we should worry about why him and others like him be it Dem or Rep are letting it get to the point that our kids may need to know Spanish. A second language choice use to be French, Italian or Spanish, now you better pick Spanish because that is what America will be speaking in not so far future.

Obama fueled the illegal issue instead of snuffing it out!
