Obama seeks to double US foreign aid

The budget, according to the text put out Thursday by the Office of Budget Management, "puts the United States on a path to double foreign assistance. By increasing foreign assistance, the United States will reach out to the global community and renew its role as a leader in global development and diplomacy."

Foreign Aid is gonna build America? Did you read the title of this thread?

You do realize that Zer0 has spent more money in the past two weeks on entitlements than Bush did on both wars?

You will NEVER be able to say anything EVER about Bush spending.

"On Thursday, Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, said Democrats were willing to pay to rebuild Iraq..."

Dems had Congress, they could of stopped all spending. You're out of line to blame Bush when he had a Democrat Congress complying. Considering that Congress has the checkbook, it is actually more accurate to make the statement that Democrats were rebuilding the sandbox.

So why do you blame Obama for everything- it must be Congress-eh :???:

From 2001-2007 who had the majority in Congress :???: Who rubberstamped every GW move- which many of them now regret :???: Who refused to hold hearings on where all this money was spent- or lost :???:
$25 BILLION by the State Dept. alone unaccountable for in Iraq...

No- every time a Repub gets up in Congress now and starts speachifying about Trillion $ Deficits-" Fiscal Conservaty"- Massive Budgets-squandering funds- etc. etc. I just start laughing...
Where the Hell were you when you gave GW full run on the Cookie Jar :???:

The reason now most people see their "fiscal conservaty" as partisan politics and obstructionism....

You know where I was on Bush, I was calling him one of the worst Presidents we have ever had. Do a search and here and you can verify. However, the TRUTH is that the Democrats had control of Congress beginning in 2006, and they didn't address any of the things you're bitching about, and before that when they were a minority, even SUPPORTED many of your complaints.

You need to put the blame where it really belongs, OT. Yes, you can hang a lot of Bush, but when the Dems didn't do anything to stop it, they're aiding and abetting.

Nope- they didn't gain control til January 2007- after the elections of 2006 started the house cleaning on the "rubber stamp" empire builders...

So then they shut off all of the money going to Iraq in 2007 then?

Nope-That was 4 years into the Bush War- and they couldn't do that to the troops....

You weren't talking about funding the troops, you were talking about rebuilding Iraq. Did the Democrats stop funding the rebuilding Iraq in 2007? 2008?

You know I asked a simple question - I had no idea it would wander off into a bash fest.

Seems to me the cash will have to come from taxes - how long will it take to pay the new debt down as there is likely to be at least one or maybe even two more trips to the well for money?

I am not so sure this is going to be the only bail out package although I hope it is - I still have a bad feeling.

After all, the first load of cash will run out - in fact it is inevitable - and it will run out quickly.

Sooner or later the well must run dry - you cannot pump water faster than the replacement rate.

Then what?

Or is everyone simply hoping it will all be over by the time the cash runs out?

I am just a dumb guy who works off the land so he can keep the land - but if I spend more than I make - sooner or later there MUST be a return on the investment - or I go broke.

Remember this - you guys do more than a billion dollars a day in trade with your number one trading partner - Canada. If you go down, Canada is also going to be in real trouble - I no longer have the faith that the Yankee dollar is going to be able to maintain it's strength.

I believe you will be forced to turn up the speed of the printing presses to pay off your debts - that means we are all going to hurt.

Yes, BC, it will come from taxes. It has to. We are mortgaging our children's future with every dollar spent today and hobbling their standard of living.

We are also crippling our foreign policy because, as China is our banker, they are going to have what amounts to veto power over everything we do as they can threaten to cut off funding or start selling bonds. Obama is selling our very souls.

Interesting comment and very true - China has been buying U.S. paper for a long time.

They could exercise their ability to make your country a very poor place.

Beware of that sleeping tiger - they are always looking for an advantage and certainly appear to have one at this time.

If Bush did not attack Iraq and Afghanistan and was wrong then we had something happen worse than 911 on American soil!

If Obama is wrong with his entitlement programs people have to go work and pay for things themselves.

I think Bush had a little more at risk than Obama does!

That will likely be "borrowed money" as will be the entire bail out package.

I wonder who will finance this - the Chinese again perhaps? Russia? Middle east cash rich countries?

The more I look at this package the more I realize the U.S. of A. will be even more strongly "foreign owned" once this money starts being paid out to "rebuild".

Or put in another way - Unless I miss my guess, the paper to finance this bail out will give many of foreign countries an even stronger hold on the financial happenings inside the U.S. of A.

Unless everything comes from inside the borders of the U.S. of A. - and it cannot because the U.S. of A. cannot do it alone - unless it turns up the printing press - there will be pay back.

It may rebuild the country and it may pay some folks mortgages - but at what cost of ownership to the country?

Am I missing something here?

You are not missing a thing, the sad part of this whole story is people like Oldtimer will not stop bashing Bush long enough to ask the same questions. China has already said they hate the US and their debt. How much longer are they going to be willing to back people that they don't respect and can't trust to be fiscally responisible? Spend spend spend is all Obama seems to know how to do. The numbers had proven that at the rate he is spending the US will NEVER be out of debt. the top 2% of tax payers in the US don't have enough money to pay off the debt while the other 95% keep adding to it.
