a search of the archives and Bush's warrantless wiretapping brings up some good threads.

What burns my butt- is that under the guise of Homeland Security- under the Patriot Act which eroded the Constitution-- he has implemented (or tried to) every type of mandatory ID there is to US citizens--feed, livestock, citizens, etc..- , and has imposed intrusions of airport and transportion strip searches and security checks- warrentless searchs, warrentless wiretaps- etc. etc on the US public ( which most accepted as a part of the war on terrorism)-- but refuses to do anything with intercepting the foreign invaders, terrorists, or the items they could be bringing in at our borders-- which is what 80% of our citizens have asked for....
Why did Baucus and Tester vote “No” on extending FISA?
By Montana Street Fighter, on December 29, 2012 | 7 Comments
This past week, with the blessing and support of the White House, the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives voted to extend The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
FISA allows the U.S. Government to spy on law-abiding citizens by tapping their phone and intercepting personal emails without warrants. It’s an expansive, overreaching piece of legislation. Unfortunately, the extension of FISA was passed easily out of the House and the Senate. Representative Rehberg voted in support of the expansion.
Michelle Richardson of the American Civil Liberties Union said in a statement, “Yet again, the House has rubberstamped a law so broad and vague that, despite its passage four years ago, we still have little idea how the government is using it.” She also pointed out that FISA strikes right at the heart of the 4th Amendment, which guards Americans against unreasonable searches and seizures.
It’s a sad day when the extension of FISA (through 2017) receives hardly any public attention or debate and is easily pushed through both chambers of congress.
Rehberg, once again, turned his back on Montana values and voted for the extension. Another reason we’ll all be glad to see him gone in just a couple of weeks.
Senator Baucus and Senator Tester were among only twenty-three Senators to vote against the expansion of FISA.
According to Baucus, “”The American people deserve to know exactly how this surveillance authority is being used… this bill leaves the door open for American citizens to get swept up in surveillance that is meant for terrorists, and I simply cannot support extending this authority without stronger protections of the constitutional rights of Montanans.”
Two-thirds of Montana’s delegation supporting Montana values is one-third too little. Whose side will Representative-elect Daines be on?

The two from Montana that you moan and groan and hate so bad...

So far- all I've seen is his return of some rights- like the rule of habeas corpus for all-

OT was talking about prisoners being held at Gitmo.
Here was OT's response to me:
WW- that article was from February...Since then they have been working diligently on setting up a system of military tribunals and federal courts to handle the hearings/trials....
Something that should have been done- and was ordered by the SCOTUS years ago--but that GW never did....You can't expect Obama or anyone to fix 8 years of Bush screwups in less than a month...
And I heard Holder tell Congress about a month ago that every individual case is now under review by Prosecuters to decide what will be done with the detainees- and whether they will be tried by military tribunal or federal court...
That thread was from Sept 2009. Of course, it should be noted that there are still individuals being held who have never been charged with a crime. Of course, what OT forgave Obama for not fixing in a month, I'm sure he'll forgive for not fixing in 4 years......Bush's fault of course.

Here's one from 5 August 2007. OT was really really really p****d when he started this thread: Why GW needs to Be Challenged!!
Finally some more are wakening to the reason I've been saying that GW needs to be challenged and jerked up short on his reign of secrecy and going around or totally avoiding existing laws and the Constitution.....The last paragraph and especially the last sentence sums it up quite well ![]()

I'm betting he's really p****d today that Obama is doing the same.

Wow, white wing, you didn't give the hypocrite very long to respond. Looks like maybe an hour? And, it seems like you had all of your info ready to share, quickly. You and hypocrite must be pretty tight considering you live at somewhat opposite ends of the earth. I guess you guys have known each other a lifetime. That's nice...

But Obama has fixed part of the problem in his own special kill list way. He will not be putting anybody new in Gitmo for a trial not even American citizens. He just drone attacks and kills anyone he thinks might have a hint of information that will help stop the next big terrorist attack on the US. NO new Prisoners means NO possible intel coming in to counter Obama's lies of saying the US is safe To Obama he wants everyone to believe NO INTEL = NO ATTACK COMING. When one does come like the Fort Hood Shooting, Christmas Day Bomber, Benghazi Embassy Attack Obama finds some crap for the media to spred so he doesn't have to answer the question to why didn't the government know and stop the attacks.
He wants everyone to believe now that Osama is dead, everyone is safe and nobody has to worry about terrorists ever again.
I'm surprised Obama didn't open the gates a Gitmo and let the prisoners go on a promise they will not go back to the battle field once Seal Team Six touched down on safe soil after taking out Osama and his body was dumped in the ocean.

  Darn Alice-- you've learned why I don't always answer when one of the Siamese twins asks a question (especially when they start a baiting thread like this one)... Its more fun to watch them answer "each other"- and sometimes they even almost argue with "each other"....
