WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is crediting its anti-recession stimulus plan with creating up to 50,000 jobs on dozens of wind farms, even though many of those wind farms were built before the stimulus money began to flow or even before President Barack Obama was inaugurated.

Out of 70 major wind farms that received the $4.4 billion in federal energy grants through the stimulus program, public records show that 11, which received a total of $600 million, erected their wind towers during the Bush administration. And a total of 19 wind farms, which received $1.3 billion, were built before any of the stimulus money was distributed.

Yet all the jobs at these wind farms are counted in the administration's figures for jobs created by the stimulus.

I read about that this morning. The only thing that came to mind was "BULL". I'm not seeing how these figures were reached. The construction of windfarms is a very short term deal(it takes 3 days to build 1 wind tower) and when the job is over, with the exception of the company hands, most of the workers will be back on unemployment. As for maintaining the towers, it takes a very very small crew. Some windfarms will hire a maintenance firm who will keep a staff of 2-3 people onsite. Some windfarms are different and have differing operating procedures, but most don't require a lot of people for upkeep as there isn't too much to them. Like I said, I'm not seeing how they reached their figures.

They'll be counting the manufacturing, the trucking and maintenance. Only the maintenance would be jobs after the stimulus, but even those would have been budgeted for before the sale of the tower and erection.

Much the same as the highways that were built with stimulus money. the engineering would have had to be done years before.

That's right. There's no such thing as "Shovel Ready".

Hypo, what you say may be true, but I'm wondering why they would want to brag about or count jobs created in other countries. Almost all of the technical parts(the stuff inside the housing) are built in Europe. The towers and blades are built here, but the "GUTS" come from overseas. I'm sure glad that our stimulus dollars are now helping the Germans. This crap really irks me. We have the ways and means of building this stuff here and they feel the need to promote the "One World" thing. How about America first Washington? When we fix what's wrong here, then we can worry about everyone else.

Now a days, when they talk about "spreading the wealth", they aren't only talking about domestically.

When the stimulus was first being debated, I mentioned that they should be spending more of the money on capital investments, like factories, which are just sitting in Detroit or wherever, but it was obvious that they were bound and determined to waste the opportunity to chase one of their main goals.

Global Redistribution of wealth.

America's wealth is part of the problem, not the solution, in the opinion of progressives, or Marxists, if you perfer.
