Obama takes Michelle on date, taxpayer on the hook

The romantic jaunt is estimated to have cost the taxpayer more than £45,000 in transport and security costs - because the date was in New York.

The President used three planes, one to carry the couple and two to ferry aides and reporters all the way from Washington.

The cost of each flight was thought to be nearly £15,000.

he bill was pushed even higher with the use of two helicopters, one to take the Obamas to catch their plane in Washington and another to zip the party into Manhattan from JFK airport.

Police also shut down New York streets for the motorcade to pass through so they could get to their date on time.

All the transport and security costs were picked up by the White House.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

And this elitist "great man" shows his hypocricy again. We're supposed to tighten our belts and he flies to NY for a night out. He's flapping his lips about global warming and carbon emissions and he takes three jets and a helicopter for a date.

Have we seen enough YET?

How much did all those 3 yrs worth of trips to Crawford cutting cedar trees cost the taxpayer?

Out of his , Bush, total of 8 yrs in office....if you add up all the time in Crawford it comes to 4 days within a 3 yr total of time.

I'm trying to follow you here. Bush spent 4 days in Crawford over a 3 year period of time?

Isn't Crawford Bush's home? That is different than a night out in New York and probably takes less security and the reporters never followed in a separate plane because they never went. Of course I am just speculating here.

The same amt of protection and security follows each and every President no matter.

This is just the Right busting a nut trying to find anything and everything to complain about.

Yes, Former President Bush's ranch is in Crawford and he did take vacations there.

And yes, it is expensive any time the President of the US does anything.

To spend $100,000 on one night out when we're broke is ridiculous. Leadership by example, right?????

Bush is a New Englander.

He just bought that 'ranch' to look Texan before he started to run for Pres.

He doesn't even live there now, but that ranch has full gov't security around it all the time. Just go there and shake a fence and see what happens in about 30 seconds!!

He's still under full protection as are all the living Presidents to this day.

In fact, Bush is such a major target to so many, his present security cost prob out max all the other living presidents total.

They get full security.... when they travel also...all at gov't expense.

Is that not the case with the Clintons house in New York as well, and bambams house in Illinois even when they are not there?

Bush would go there from time to time on vacation and spend a few days there. Same thing for Camp David. Clinton did the same - all of them do that and it's expected. What Obama did is far from that. His little jaunt was not a vacation or a getaway, it was just a night out.

What really shows what kind of a elitist hypocrite he is is that he pulls this stunt after preaching about everybody tightening our belts, that we can't keep our thermostats at 72 (while he keeps his at 80), and that we have to go green and cut our carbon emissions.

I figure the 3 jets and a helicopter probably left a bigger carbon footprint than I have all my life, so if he wants me to reduce my carbon after pulling this stunt, he can hang it.

Just another example of what a narcisstic elitist hypocrite this man is.

It's just like trying to teach a kid financial responsibility. Just because you already owe more than you can afford doesn't mean that you can put another $100 on the credit card just because you "deserve" to go out on the town for a night.

Huh? Bush was former governor of Texas and was involved with the ownership group of the Texas Rangers.

Current talk is that the trip cost around a half million dollars for helicopters, private jets and one A-17 transport....not tomention weeks of planning....All to keep a campaign promise he made to Michelle.....when will he start keeping campaign promises made to the people of the US???? Wonder what promise she made him.

Most of Bush's trips to Crawford were "working vacations". Diplomats met him there, presidents met him there, negotiations were carried out there, and you can bet he always had the launch codes with him at all times as well. Not to mention a "hot line" to the Kremlin.

By the way Kola...ever heard a New Englander with a Texas drawl? Don't think you can consider Bush a New Englander.

Just a week or so ago, Zer0 flew to Nevada with his entire entourage on a "Fund Raising" campaign for the Democrats.

While on his trip he purposely scheduled a stop at an Air Force base just so the Democrat Socialist Party wouldn't have to pay the expenses.

We need to crack down on all these government "expense paid" trips, both parties included, but to lead by example would be far best to get it started.

Remember.........."The Buck Stops Here".

Good for him....its very important to make your life partner your center, she probably enjoyed it. :)

She would probably enjoy it if Maobama used tax payer money to buy her a private pacific island, too.

After preaching carbon, budget, etc... You don't think this makes him look like a hypocrite?
