Obama wants Ferguson to explode

If you had predicted six years ago that America’s first half-black, half-white president would actually make race relations in the U.S. worse, they would have laughed you out of the room.

If you had said that, in the face of a sudden racial crisis, the president — portrayed as black throughout the campaign — would be impotent, neutered, unable to speak powerfully about the situation, they would have scoffed incredulously.

Who are “they”? Everyone. If you had expressed those fears out loud in the run-up to his historic 2008 election, everyone within earshot would have mocked you mercilessly. More, they would have expressed a shattered disappointment in your very existence: How could you not get on board the Hope and Change bus? How could you not embrace the new post-partisan — even post-racial — world that candidate Barack Obama promises?

And just what happened to you as a child to make you so pessimistic and bitter? They’d actually feel sorry for you.

Mr. Obama had first spoken of race in his 1995 autobiography, of that “alien” race — whites. In 2007, he complained about his plight as a black man in America. “If I’m outside your building trying to catch a cab,” he told Charlie Rose, “they’re not saying, ‘Oh, there’s a mixed race guy.’”

He cashed in on Joe Biden’s description of him as a “clean” African American. And he had for years benefited from identifying as black, using race as a bludgeon when necessary, and as a shield when subtlety was required. According to some pundits, he was in fact swept into office by white guilt — white voters broke his way in hopes of putting behind them the painful legacy of racism and slavery.

He had immersed himself in black culture after growing up in Hawaii, raised by his white grandparents. He discarded the “Barry” nickname for “Barack” in time for college, just when universities were looking to bolster their minority ranks. He joined a black church in Chicago, led by the very racist Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and married a black woman after years of dating whites.

That union pushed him further along. Michelle Obama, the first lady of the nation, is a bitter black woman. Although given every opportunity to achieve (which she in fact seized), Mrs. Obama said in 2008, as her husband was moving toward the Democratic nomination for president, that “for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country.”

She has busied herself with the plight of fat children, an odd choice for such an accomplished woman. But behind the scenes, she pushed her husband “to be more aggressive in attacking Republicans and to side with blacks in racial controversies,” according to a new book.

That demand, the author says, led to Mr. Obama’s volatile statement after a black teenager was shot to death in Florida in 2012. Instead of saying, “Let’s wait for the facts,” he said, “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.” Not so healing.

He had the same knee-jerk racial response in 2009, when a black Harvard professor was arrested while trying to break into his own house. Although he admitted knowing none of the facts, he said, “the Cambridge police acted stupidly.”

And so, now, Ferguson. No one yet knows what happened there. Far too early to know. Did a racist cop kill a young black man (albeit one 6 feet 4 inches tall and 290 pounds) in cold blood? Or was he in fear of his life, defending himself from a man charging him after trying to seize his weapon?

No one knows, certainly not Mr. Obama. So why, then, say the shooting was “heartbreaking”? It was, if Mike Brown was killed for no reason; it was most certainly not, if he was a thug who attacked a police officer.

While he didn’t say the teenager could have been his son, or that police had acted stupidly, he also did not tell those in Ferguson to stand down, to just stop. While he didn’t call the moment “teachable,” he also didn’t say that the rule of law supersedes all, that everyone should step back, stop the violence, and look to the courts to resolve the matter.

And there’s a simple reason: Mr. Obama will never “let a good crisis go to waste.” Americans are being beheaded in Iraq, the Middle East is on fire, Vladimir Putin is one-upping the president left and right. The president needs an issue, something divisive, something that fits his strategy of pitting American against American, class against class, and as always, race against race.

This is Mr. Obama’s darkest hour. And he’s on the golf course on Martha’s Vineyard, playing the whitest of sports — golf — hoping the whole thing explodes.

He just might get his wish.

First off I think you want it to explode.

BUT......with all this talk of " why" did the police shoot? Why did they use deadly force?

My question is , why is NO ONE ( media esp) asking why are these people stealing to set into motion a situation that leads to a deadly end?

They are not stealing out of hunger. Mike Brown stole some cigars and the guy the other day stole a honey bun. That IS NOT stealing for survival.

What's going on?

I don't blame the police for using a strong arm...they have families also and prob make less per year than the people doing the petty stealing.

Kola,

So you think Obama is handling this correctly? Michelle's comments were appropriate?

I don't understand your meaning. It looks much worse and I am seeing and reading much worse than what is cited.

There are people in power who would like to fuse the situation. They have action plans that are appropriate. Yet they are being throttled from implementation. Why?

Someone up the food chain is up to no good. Michelle is on that bandwagon in my opinion. She needs to shut the pie hole.

I can speak with a wee bit of experience here.

I live in the county in Ga where the "flash-bang" canister went off in that baby's crib during a meth house raid. The crib was pushed up to barricade the very door that meth was sold to an undercover cop not 3 hrs earlier.

Anyhoo.....when that hit the fan, there were protest here. Now, we are a 3 red light town. There not much that goes on here so when you see a crowd in town, somethings up.

We had "outsiders" come in here and REALLY REALLY try to blow things out of hand. I mean they had TV media with them, many black preachers...all for Atlanta. Had folks gathered in the middle of town with signs and mega phones, the whole dog & pony show. Residents just drove on by...............................

well, that didn't sit well here and the LOCAL LEADERS took the situation under control and those were put out of town.

Now, with all that chatter from me, my bottom line is that the LOCAL LEADERS in that town, be they church or whatever, they could STOP this.

My opinion, is that this has NOTHING to do with the President . All poitics is local applies here, in my mind.

BUT......with all this talk of " why" did the police shoot? Why did they use deadly force?

there are several "accounts" that have emerged..

so it is difficult understanding the timeline...

but here is what it may look like from the policemen view.

He saw two black men walking down the street... in the middle..
(they do it around here.. annoying to say the least )

so he told them to get out of the street and walk on the sidewalk...
they didn't listen,.. and he started to drive off...

when he heard the robbery dispatch and what was taken he backed up to confront the (thugs).

Brown struggled with the officer.. the gun went off.. the police officer had a fractured eye socket. or a blown orbital socket.

Brown and little thug ran off..

brown turned around.... and according to several accounts,.. brown taunted the officer for a few seconds.. then ran at or charged at the officer..

as long as he kept coming the officer shot his weapon...

I am not sure how much the blown eye socket affected his shooting..
or thinking,.. but it would have an impact ..

it isn't about black or white.. it is about the tolerance of thug behavior.. .

Tin Soldiers and Nixon Coming! MUCH BIGGER issue. Much more deaths.

Anyone else here old enough to remember Kent State?

Different race. Maybe they should have looted, pillaged and plundered? Embarked the KKK to come out and support them the way Sharpton has come out?

There are some good blacks with excellent ideas. They need spot light. They deserve a chance. They are not getting it. Racists within their own race are in control. Making things worse. Obama is not doing the right things. If he is going to do something, atleast do the right things. He has not. He has made the situation worse. Michelle needs to shut her trap.

I think my sentence reads wrong. I fully agree with using deadly force if some bozo is coming at you.

I'm not asking the question, I meant that others seems confused as to why poilce use deadly force.

Notice how most media talks about a "Teenage boy"?

He was 6'4" 290 pounds and by some accounts charging the police officer.

What Ya gonna do?

6 foot 3 is what I understood. Not much difference. No matter. Kid's dead. I am not on a jury and all the facts I have seen are simply what the media wants to show or what I gleam off of the net.

THe truth is coming out and many of the squawkers are now eating crow.

What I was responding to was the original post and the handling by higher ups.

Maybe I too need to clarify: "Mishandling" by higher ups.

Leaks from law enforcement now coming out are indicating that this Mike Brown "kid" was a gang member and had an extensive juvenile record including an arrest for second degree murder....

Some are suing to have his record released since he is dead and no longer has a right to privacy...

Old news OT. If you were any type of LE, or investigator, you would have noticed the gold bracelet his accomplice was wearing in the shoplifting video, was latter lying by the police car door, where the 2 of the youths attacked the officer. Also looked to me like the side view mirror was twisted, which meant someone brushed against it...most likely indicating a struggle.

It sure didn't get there by them running the other way, that's for sure.
