NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—President Obama is about to issue an executive order that would force all Americans to purchase a monthly supply of marijuana, the Fox News Channel reported today.

According to Fox’s Sean Hannity, who broke the story, Obama’s initiative is part of a broader plan to make weed available and affordable to every individual in the United States.

Under Obama’s plan, every American would be required to purchase a government-mandated amount of marijuana per month or face a penalty of up to two thousand dollars.

Hannity said that the President hopes to have the mandatory marijuana plan up and running by 2015, “but they’re still working on the Web site.”

Appearing on Fox, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) took issue with Obama’s recent remark that marijuana was no more dangerous than alcohol: “I saw that as an insult.”

so Constitutionally, why couldn't obama require citizens to purchase pot? With taxpayers covering the expense?

littlejoe? Can you tell us?

For that matter, is there any reason why a Republican President/Congress could not require all citizens to purchase/own a firearm?

You Socialist Canucks just don't understand free, capitalistic, Constitutional republics do you? The king can't require citizens to purchase pot. But, the king can tax those citizens with a certain level of income that don't buy their fair share of pot. It is the taxation of a condition that must be met- people that have income (i.e. taxpayers as those without income do not pay taxes) could be taxed for not having pot. So it is not a requirement but a tax. And as we all know by recent precedent, a tax can be called a "mandate" if desired. If a mandate that is really a tax, is called a mandate, it can be started in any body. If a tax is called a tax, it has to be originated in the house or representatives.

In regards to the firearm, it is an interesting question. Congress could legally mandate the purchase of a firearm.

Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution gives Congress the power:

“To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

“To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;”

Andy Borowitz

So basically Boehner is saying he's too drunk to be President but just drunk enough to be Speaker of the House.

I'm no Boehner fan but what is really Too bad is Obama had not realized he was too incompetent to be President but just competent enough to be a lying Democrat.

Then maybe the US would not be 17.4 trillion dollars in debt with a Healthcare system that is about to implode.

But I'm sure you can find a way of blaming that on someone other than your hero OBAMA.

Why is Boehner called a drunk, but Nancy Pelosi isn't............? :p

it would be considered a "war on women", if the truth was told about Pelosi.

Much the same as being racist for mentioning obama's incompetencies, but it was patriotism to mention Bush's
