Obama's Green plan, and Gov. Green Fleet

In an appearance at the Department Of Energy today, Mr. Obama attacked those who have dubbed a provision in his stimulus bill to modernize the fleet of federal vehicles "pork."

Said the president: "...when you hear these attacks deriding something of such obvious importance as this, you have to ask yourself -- are these folks serious? Is it any wonder that we haven't had a real energy policy in this country?"

Now a quote from Congressional Research:Carbon Control in the US Electricity Sector.

As a general rule, PHEVs only reduce net
carbon emissions if the power plants supplying them produce relatively little carbon per kWh. But some studies show that, if the U.S. generation portfolio does not significantly reduce its overall carbon intensity, widespread adoption of PHEVs through 2030 may have only a small
effect on, and might actually increase, net CO2 emissions

So usage of Hybrid/PHEV would actually increase CO2 emissions, would be putting the cart before the horse.

I understand that we have to move toward alternative energy sources! But what amazes me is how these myopic liberals think we can do it tomorrow! It will take years of research, testing and lots of cash to SLOWLY wean ourselves from fossil fuels! Build wind and solar generation facilities! Use tidal generators! But also realize farm equipment, industrial equipment, mining equipment and trucking companies will have a hard time carrying enough batterys power to accomplish their tasks! A hybrid sedan is one thing but an electric wal-mart fleet is something else. And the Left's radical enviromental movement says NO COAL! NO NUCLEAR! NO DAMS! NO DRILLING! NO,NO,NO! Ya can't have it both ways! We will pay more money for fuel. We will pay for costly regulations via the EPA! We will lose jobs to overseas companys who dont have to jump through the hoops courtesy of the Sierra club and Al Gore! So we will continue to get further behind! We oughta take care of our planet but we oughta take care of our economic issues too! These LIVE-IN-A-DISNEY-MOVIE-FANTASY-LAND so-called leaders we have think by holding hands and thinking nice thoughts we can solve all our problems!

I agree Leanin, there has to be a logical plan in place. A plan can not be drawn up by throwing darts at the wall.

It seems in this stimulus plan, they are trying to do a little of everything, and not enough of what should be #1 on the "to do list" for energy.

You can't build many wind turbines before you rebuild the electrical grid.

You can't start driving hybrid or full elec. cars, before you provide the clean power to "re-charge" the batteries.

And you can not do any of it, without have a secure source of oil, and the capital to finance (something that's tough to get right now)
