it was nice and green. damned frost! took away the oats I was grazing, and the hay was probably set back two weeks or three! I am guessing we lost over a ton an acre of new alfalfa.....

Our Alfalfa looks like crap... Just terrible. It was comming n like gangbusters but than booom, a couple 17 degree nights and it, well, doubt it is killed out but it won't be waist high by May 15th either... Or knee high for that matter probably. Not a huge deal really as we are done haying our alfalfa fields and manage the old mixed Alfalfa Orchard fields for grazing instead but I'm a little tired of the cold. Forcast is statring to look better, night time lows above freezing and highs in the 50's and 60's again starting today (With wed being 44) .. should get the grass going, have rain in the forcast tonight, I guess they are expecting a couple inches of snow about 50 miles or so to the north of here... I really don't think I could handle any more snow.. I know it wouldn't stick but just the hit of seeing snow on the ground first thing in the morning... no thank you.

jigs did your alfalfa all turn white? lot of it down around Jamestown is shot, ruined the first cutting. Some of the wheat really took it hard in that area too. The wheat up in your country didn't look nearly as bad today as it did a few days ago.

yep, we went white. but the regrowth is pushing already. we were looking at 6 cuttings until the frost hit. gonna be mid may before we get to swathing now I guess. but that is ok, we can get the corn all planted and out of the way.

I guess there are guys further south of here that are chopping it and making haylage off of it. Could be interesting to see how that works.
