Glad we didn't have to round up too big of an area this morning
Thecowwiththelongesthornsonourranch.jpg

The cow with the longest horns on our ranch. She is a natural born leader even though she doesn't always know where she is going.
She was the first cow out of the corral when we sorted the cows away from their calves this morning.

They look terrific, Soap. Glad they sold well for ya.

I really like that grass they are on. Really well sodded.
We don't have that here.

Thanks for the pictures. Fog really makes for neat shots.

that is a nice soggy set of calves - good price too.

I would like to have the picture you footnoted "cows and steer calves" framed and on my wall - great shot

the guy working the ring in that first shot wearing the black hooded sweat coat - he was an ex hereford guy, he' a dead giveaway.

Thanks, Hereford76.

If this gentleman is an ex Hereford guy, it is news to me. I thought he'd probably always run Angus.

man - i would have put money on it the way he is postured behind that black critter... long stick, one hand and one foot up on the fence, and his eyes intensely concentrated where they are

Those generic genetics seem to be holding up their end. When are you going to start selling "Sandhills Certified", just in case they would be worth more?
Really nice set! I'll bet a dollar next year they weigh 20# more.

Thanks, Haytrucker. (I am going to miss your brother not being at the bull supply station.) Our heavier calves sold last week. One load weighed 636# and brought 102.60, and the other load weighed 594# and brought 102.00 even. A year ago, those two drafts were 644# @ 112.00 and 600# @ 110.00, so this year they were down right at seven pounds. As it didn't seem to pay to sort last week, we took the two loads yesterday "as is." The same buyer bought them all.

A young man sold some very nice steer and heifer calves at the sale yesterday. His heifer calves hadn't been topped. I ended up buying 61 head of them, averaging 581# @ 94.34. They are real "toppy" heifers and should make some excellent cows in the future.

No, it was at Martin, SD on Monday. I didn't get to Rushville on Wednesday, but was there last Saturday for the horse sale.
