Our #2 son is playing guitar with a pickup band at a local fair tonight. They have a flatdeck set up on main street for a stage. They practiced together for at least 3 hours yesterday(for the first time). :D
Shower, shave and show support for my budding "Mark Knopfler"!!! :D
To hell with the haying for the rest of the day/night!! :D

Our local fair runs tomorrow, one day instead of two; lots of events dropped; poor economy and a shortage of young people; could be one of the last of the local fairs! :???: :???: :?

County Fairs are becoming a thing of the past here too.
We still have them, but it gets harder to afford them, it seems.
It takes people/county participation to have a County Fair and that
isn't the 'IN' thing nowadays.

The entertainment costs alot as a draw for one thing. And I hear
people say, "why should I pay that to hear so and so sing, when
I can watch them on tv for free." That isn't the way to think when
the fairboard tries to bring in good entertainment. They need support
from everyone.

This year we had a Beef CookOff during our fair. We had twice as many people show up compared to last number of years. We'll try it again next year and hopefully it will catch on. We had 5 contestants this year, MCG and sw were two of them. I think alot of potential contestants were sitting back to see how it would pan out. I think we'll have more next year :)

The prizes were beef bucks, to be cashed in at the local grocery stores. We had Jr group (up to 18) and a Sr group (over 18). 1st prize was $100.00 in beef dollars, 2nd prize was 50.00 and 3rd was 25.00. We got good publicity free of charge so we can up the ante on the prizes for next year.

The reasons I've quit going to county fair country music shows are, #1 they are way too loud; and #2 the "new" stars just don't have it compared to those of a generation ago. Old time rock music was way more "country" than is the music of the new so-called country stars of today. Guess I'm just getting old and fussy.

I agree about the LOUD. Why do they insist on being so loud, does
anyone reading this know?

This was addressed in our newspaper this week. Will be interesting
to see if we get any replies or solutions.

Speaking of good country music to be watched at home on your television, there are several hours of old Hee Haw re-runs on CMT until midnight tonight.

Have fun. :)

I can sum up the "why" they are too loud in 1 word...... DRUMMER!!!
Most drummers CANNOT learn to back off(the good ones can).
Everyone else is forced to play louder just so they can hear themselves over the drums. This of course encourages the drummer to hit even harder.
This is why I am a fan of bluegrass music(no drums), and those little electronic drummers that don't give you no lip. :D
