Off to Toronto

Canada that is  To visit my relatives. Not a great time of year to be gone but not too bad. We're only feeding the bred heifers and the replacement heifers. Hopefully the weather will hold while I'm gone so Mike doesn't have to bring the cows home.

I went a couple years ago for one aunt's 80th birthday, some of you might remember that. so now the aunts are 87, 83, and 79 (mom would've been 85). Numerous cousins are there also. Should be jolly fun. The 83 year old is the one I'm closest to, she used to come out here every fall. But she is not up to traveling this far anymore so we figured I better get myself up there, and she insisted on paying for it :) She has macular degeneration, and Parkinsons. She just moved to a senior citizens building and LOVES it. Lot's of activities etc. So that's where I'll be for the next week.

I leave monday morning and get back the next monday. I might be able to get on a computer while I'm there.

Anyone live close to Toronto and plan to be in the city that week?

I'm almost 2 hours out, try to avoid Toronto as much as possible. Be careful, I think we're supposed to get an ice storm tonight and maybe tomorrow and colder all week so don't let anybody break a hip.

Thanks Dale, we will be careful. It's snowing and blowing here. Mike's son is here for the weekend so he will drop me off at my aunt in Idaho's house this evening on his way home. Saves Mike a 4 hour trip.

:( Looks like you almost couldn't have picked a worse time to Visit Canada....be careful my friend

Toronto, the country's largest city, snow fell overnight as a storm system passed over the Great Lakes from Colorado.

That same system left three people dead, brought road and air travel to a halt and caused power outages for thousands of people as it passed over the U.S. Midwest.

About 15 to 30 centimetres is expected across Ontario and into southwest Quebec. Parts of northwestern Ontario could get up to 40 cm over the next 24 hours.

The snow is expected to change into freezing rain by mid-day in southern Ontario. Windsor and Goderich in far southwestern Ontario have already had a dose of freezing rain.

"Dangerous winter travelling conditions are expected across Ontario as the snow may possibly be heavy at times which can cause brief whiteout conditions," warned Environment Canada.

Blowing snow and freezing rain here now, took the kids to see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train today (Melanie Doane, Wide Mouth Mason, and Santa) then stopped at my sister's for supper, when we left there was half an inch of ice on the van.

My friends in Toronto have been using the snow blower at the school most of the day to get ready for school tomorrow. They said ithere wasn't too much snow, but very wet, and blew around a lot. 3-4" is what they figured, but it was a fairly nice day...

You have a good memory, BMR. It was really nasty when I visited there last February. First time I had ever been in an ice storm. The city was without power for a time too.
