Oh, what a beautiful morning (pictures)

We received another 1.3" of rain yesterday, brings our total to
almost 4" for the week. We were out putting out mineral and checking cattle this morning. I thought I'd share some pictures:

This is a Mytty In Focus son and his second year of use. He was
born Jan. 08. We bred 50 heifers to these bulls last year and the report back was of only 1 heifer had to have help and that was by hand.
I really like this bull and he has a super disposition. Fed grass hay
this winter, no grain.

Lewis Cattle Oiler with some of the trimmings:

This cheatgrass is on a tough piece of ground. I'd never seen cheatgrass
that was lodged before, but here is some:

Per, we don't have as much water standing as you do, but we got
enough that it's running out the spillway on this resevoir.

We have some erosion from all the rain. Mr. FH has made some ditches
to divert the water from where it normally runs. Too late for this
spot tho.

What is normally, our little Sandstone Creek is now full to the banks:

Water standing in the pasture:

We don't normally see this much yellow clover, I suppose because the
ground is pretty heavy here, but this year, we've got lots of it.

This is a portable shed. There was a discussion about portable sheds
on another thread last winter or spring. We use this where we put the
2 year old with their calves after calving.

Guess that's all. I was a great morning to be alive and outdoors!!
Hope the pictures aren't too big.

Looks soggy FH. Grass grows great guns given the gift of gallons of groceries from God. :? OK, how about Rain makes good grassfarmers out of all of us. I'd bet if you pulled that oiler 20 feet every time you filled it you would create some awesome grass there for next year. Is that Myt bull from the young Myt we don't hear of too often anymore? He looks right for the job.

Good point, per. I'll bring that up. You are right about the rain;
makes good stewards out of all of us. We got another 1/2" last night.
But we aren't complaining. It is getting time to hay, the alfalfa is
blooming, but the ground needs to dry out first.

gcreek, you mean we need more cattle because of all the grass?
Too bad this rain isn't dependable every year, but it's not.

Standing water in western Dakotas, NE, WY, and MT is a great thing. We could actually use a good shot. We haven't been getting the ones that most areas have been getting. The hay fields and pastures look absolutely great here, but the small grains, corn and beans could use some.

Congrats on the good year!!!

Thanks. We'll send you some for your small grains. How about tonight?

Gcreek, nope, that bull isn't from ranchers MYT.
He's from Kevin Mytty at Lolo, Mt. son of Mytty In Focus.

I knew that. It was that uptown grain farmer/cattleman from Alberta that was mixed up. :p :D

It gets kind of confusing living here amongst the masses. :) I'm not much of a genetic junkie. I just like what i like.

your country sure looks good , FH. probably better than around here. we got close to 2 inches the last two nights, so things should start perking up around here.

I'm happy that you are getting some rain, Justin.

And thanks for the comment on the bull. I like him too.
All 3 of them were good, he's probably the best as far as
phenotype goes. Goes to show, you don't have to GO
TO THE BULL SALE to get a good bull. :p
