OIE Global Animal Health Initiative: The Way Forward ???

Joint OIE/WB Press Release

The World Bank and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) co-organised a Conference on “Global Animal Health Initiative: the Way Forward” in collaboration with the FAO at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC (USA), October 9, 10 and 11 2007.

“Quite apart from avian influenza, emerging animal diseases, three quarters of which are zoonotic, are set to become more and more part of the world landscape. In response to these major health risks, the international community will be required to take an increasingly active long-term role in a global system of animal disease prevention and control. As a first step toward this ambitious objective, the World Bank is supporting the OIE through a Development Grant Facility” Dr. François Le Gall, World Bank.

The specific objective of this World Bank Grant is to contribute to (i) the awareness at national and international levels on the importance of these animal diseases of global importance and the Global Public Good nature of their prevention and control, (ii) the continuing strengthening of the collaboration between public health and animal health key players as well as with the private sector, (iii) the enhancement of national capacity with the improvement of the quality of their Veterinary Services, and (iv) the leveraging of funds toward these specific objectives

SO, in my opinion, it seems the OIE's way forward is for countries like the USA, that wants the OIE Gold Card, simply to not document and report
any disease that may do harm to the precious commodities and futures. IF that is not the case, why is it other countries report there NOR-98 atypical scrapie cases and there H-BASE atypical BSE cases with full report, but the USDA et al have yet to be documented on the OIE page. I find this odd to say the least, BUT i guess it's there 'way forward'. I call it going backwards. but there only fooling themselves, while playing there poker game with human health and TSE. however, once again i ask, why have the USA 5 documented cases of the Nor-98, and or the two h-BASE atypical BSE cases, not been reported on the OIE weekly disease notice ???

(Adopted by the International Committee of the OIE on 23 May 2006)

11. Information published by the OIE is derived from appropriate
declarations made by the official Veterinary Services of Member Countries.
The OIE is not responsible for inaccurate publication of country disease status based on
inaccurate information or changes in epidemiological status or other significant events that were not
promptly reported to then Central Bureau............

WHAT this OIE gold stamp actually means, you can get this stamp of approval simply by what ever data you submit,
no matter how false it may be, simple as that, and we know just how honest this administration has been in the past.
it was about nothing more than trade, commodities and futures.

Flounder, we all know the USDA/Bush administration took the OIE route (and controlled its outcome) to keep up the bse policy they wanted and stop testing and worrying about bse.

The bse policy of the USDA has been manipulated as to truth and credibility. That is why they will not let anyone test but themselves.

The OIE does what its supporters want, not what is right all the time.

Do you really trust your health care insurer to tell your doctor what tests they can and can not perform when giving you your health care? That is exactly what the OIE does. It has the U.S. and others members who make a policy, and say that it is the "world's" policy, thus trying to by step the credibility issue.

Japan and our other trading partners didn't buy it, and neither should we.

Unfortunately, we have a government who has their own interests in mind, not the interests of the people or THE TRUTH!
