Could we have some solutions to this predicament?

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday the West has failed to break Iran's will in the nuclear standoff, days after world powers presented Tehran with a new offer aimed at ending the crisis.
"In the nuclear issue, the bullying powers have used up all their capabilities but could not break the will of the Iranian nation," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by state television.

World powers -- Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States -- on Saturday offered Tehran a new package of technological and economic incentives in exchange for suspending uranium enrichment activities.

The West fears the process might be used to make an atomic bomb although Iran insists it only wants to generate nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Ahmadinejad's comments were his first statement on the nuclear crisis since the offer was presented but it was not clear if they represented a reaction to the proposal.

The Iranian government spokesman has already said Tehran will reject any offer demanding it suspends uranium enrichment.

The UN nuclear watchdog has been investigating Iran's nuclear drive for over five years but has never been able to conclude whether the programme is peaceful.

Iran has said it is examining the package but has so far showed no indication that it will change its defiant course in its nuclear drive.

Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ali Asghar Soltanieh ruled out on Wednesday that the country could freeze enrichment, saying: "Iran will never submit to such an illegal act."

I think Bush should continue to strut around, rant and rave, threaten, etc. The world knows we're tied down in Iraq. The world knows that our military is greatly weakened. The world has watched in amazement as the strongest military in the world has been stopped cold by what Donald Runsfield called a few "deadenders". The world knows people in the US, the majority, at least, have no stomach for attacking Iran. But let Bush, like Reagan did about Beruit, talk big and tough. That'll show 'em.

Now that you've shown your sarcasm. How about a real try at a solution?

If you really think our soldiers are stopped cold, you are further out in left field than I thought. If we needed to, we could go in a level the whole area. Stopped cold

How many troops did we send into Iraq to start with? How many are there now? I don't see how you can claim progress.

This sort of bluster, chest thumping, swagger, threats only make you appear weaker when you actually DON'T go in and "level" the place.

I'm not a dove, so I am probably not the best one to ask, but what I would do is this:

Remove ALL American troops and hardware from the middle east.

Put carrier groups in the Med and in the Indian Ocean.

Notify the governments of the middle east that development of nuclear technology will result in an immediate and permanent response. Exporting of terrorism will result in the same response. Otherwise they are free to do what they want to their own citizens or act any way they want in their own countries.

Should a country begin the development of nuclear facilities or export terrorism, the government and the research sites will be nuked. That we will carpet bomb the seat of government and the research sites with enough thermonuclear power to convert the existing areas to radioactive glass. This can be accomplished with unmanned rockets from the carrier groups. Any sorties against the carrier groups will be dealt with in similar fashion.

One or maybe two of those tinhorn dictators might try it. But if we do what we say we will, chances are, in order to keep their lavish lifestyle and their concubines and their palaces, they will see to it that terrorists do not use their country as a training base, that any nuclear development will be under the auspices of the IAEA, and that they will take steps to not piss us off.

But like I said, I'm a liberal, not a dove.

Is this statement based on your West Point studies or is it based on your first hand military career?
