For all you non okra eatin folks that didnt or haven't ever seen it. We went by a fellas house today, he'd called wantin Mr Lilly to come look at his pickup that wouldnt run. He offered to let me pick okra while we were there...got myself a whole grocery bag full......yummmmmmmmmmmmm
Took a couple pictures while I was there to, so ya'll can see what it looks like.

Has a beautiful bloom

Then after a day or so the bloom kinda just rolls itself up and the pod forms underneath......bloom dries up and falls off the small end of the okra pod as it grows. the one's you see that are an inch or two long today, will be 3 or 4 inches by tomorrow..they grow fast, and you hafta pick it everyday.

LOL reckon it'd make it across the border in a box??? or seeds??? you might be able to buy frozen okra in your grocer's freezer section. We have it here in the stores. I'll probably freeze this, since last night I made a big ole pot of shrimp gumbo with okra and maters.

Red Robin and his wife brought some okra up for us to sample. It wasn't too bad but I have thought of a real great recipe for okra plants.

6 to 8 ounces of Round up
one gallon of water
agitate well
spray until plant is covered
wait 24 hours and repeat if necessary

have a cold one

lazy ace,

you just don't know what's good LOL Hope they didn't try to feed you boiled okra yer first go round. I love it now, but as a kid that was one of the nastiest things mama fixed.....boiled okra.....

Fried okra is good...when done right. (what you get in resturants aint real fried okra) it's okra..but they don't do it the way we southerners do it.

As for your concoction for okra plants.....keep it away from my garden LOL I have a hard enuff time as it is keepin stuff alive.....I'm not the green thumbed person in this family....son is....I can plant the seeds..and pick the produce...but all that stuff in the middle between that time is best left to him.

Hey Mrs. Greg, seems to me I saw fresh (or as fresh as we ever get) okra in either Costco or Sobeys last time I was through, which was a while ago. Only reason I noticed was because I wouldn't know what the heck to do with it!

I kind of like Lazy Ace's recipe... I have tried the stuff before, I can't say that my taste buds took a liking to it but some folks don't like what I eat either so to each their own.

The best way to eat okra LA is get one spoon full of Okra and the rest of the plate put a generous portion of Ozark hickory smoked ham . Eat the ham and throw what's left out to the dog.
I actually like okra . I wouldn't eat any vegetable boiled . Fried is the only way to go.
Save that roundup for the onion row.

I fattened a hog once with the Okra in the garden that was too big and tough.

We still talk about that hog being the best we ever had.

This is red okra which we grew for the first time this summer. Not a great shot but the stems and fruits are bright burgundy and looked ornamental against the usual greenery. I let these get way too big to eat but will have seeds for next year.

My tomato plants are loades with Big Green Tomatoes that may not make it to Red - if the weather keep going like it is I may half to pick them green
