Ranchers.net

My mother-in-law is visiting, and she just told a pretty good story. She grew up in a ranch family, with six older brothers and one younger sister. Their parents had a good-sized ranch, and besides the six boys, there was always a few hired hands around. The hay was stacked and fed by using horses, so it took a large crew to accomplish the tasks.

On one Thanksgiving the family and a couple hired hands were all seated at the table. A man that had done some painting on the ranch just happened to drive by that day. He was on a roaring drunk and stopped to say hello. He was invited to sit at the table, even though he was in a very sad state. The food was passed, and everyone was enjoying the meal. Never at a loss for words and being an astute observer, the drunk painter slurred, "Every time an elbow bends, a mouth flies open." :)

Often at future family gatherings, someone would come up with that saying.
