On His Way.

In about an hour we are heading to Pearson Int'l to drop my oldest son and his hockey gear off. All umpteen bags of it, what with him being a goalie.

For a couple of years, he had been thinking about taking up the invitation of a friend and occasional teammate of his to go to the Czech Republic on a mini-tournament. So this winter he is going on a 10 day tour with a bunch of other local Canadian guys to play a few games against Czechs of a similar (I hope  ) skill level.

It is a hockey-oriented missions trip and will give them opportunity to share their faith while at the same time giving them exposure to the Czech culture.

Even though he's a big boy now, 26 years old, it still kinda tugs to see him off on his own. Kinda tugs for him too to not be around on Valentine's Day to see his sweetheart! Oh well how many girls can say that they had roses sent from Prague on Feb. 14th!

Seems like only yesterday that we brought the lil rascal home from the hospital weighing all of 4lb. 12 oz., a month premature. Tiny and fragile looking, he didn't weigh much more than the goalie stick he uses now. It sure makes me wonder where the years went.

Maybe he will come home sporting a Hasek or Vokoun jersey . . .

My oldest girl played there a few years ago - she loved it

Tell him to take lots of pics in Praha - or Prague - it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. You see them you will want to visit.

I didn't know until on the way to the airport that his girlfriend played over there 2 years ago as well. It is her ambition to make the Canadian Women's Olympic team in 2014. She sure has the fire to do it but it takes a lot of fire to get there . . .

We don't have no hockey down here but my oldest son went to germany on a ffa trip. He was a state officer. We had to sigh a paper so he could drink wine when thay set down to eat he stayed at a small farm and they put him to work. He had a real good time and was treated well. He said they had the best sausage he had ever ate. He stayed in touch with them and they all came to see us. We showed them a good time. They were some real good folks.

Well the boy called at lunch (which was suppertime in the Czech) to catch up a bit. They have had a great time so far in every way, work, sightseeing, hockey.

Oh yes did I mention hockey?

They are 3 - 0 so far with one game left tonite and so I guess that's a winning record. The team they played last night was a group of older guys (the goalie was 50 so that's really old!! ) but they were from the higher end of hockey in the Czech, something like our OHL here in Ontario.

They won 6 - 3 but the boy said that Ryan, the one D, was making like a goalie blocking shots and diving in front of the puck every chance he had - made our boy's job a bit easier!!

It was probably the best fought game they played so far.

Sounded like he's having the time of his life with the only regret being how fast the time is going . . .
